RE: Firmware Flash Fails

So is your machine bricked now? Or is it printing?

RE: Firmware Flash Fails

Machine isn't bricked, but it's owner is. Turns out that last upgrade I installed a while ago wasn't the MK3S upgrade, it was just R3 (?) or something. So the error was from using MK3S firmware for a MK3 machine. Once I switched to the MK3 firmware it flashed fine. Thanks for the help all 🙂

Flashing to latest version failed and printer will not boot!

Just updated my Mk3S+ with MMU2 to the current release on the website and something seems to have gone wrong.  The update reported update failure and the printer reported writing progress at more than 500%.  The printer restarted but just gets stuck at the initial startup screen and hangs.

I’ve tried the factory reset (reset + knob press) but that does nothing other than write a few solid blocks in the first row before stopping.

I can only assume something went wrong mid-flash and I now have an electronic brick.  Which PCB is going to need replacing?  The control head or the EINSY - or both?

Suggestion

I would try to flash it again and if that fails, contact support via chat.

If you have the possibility, you can also reflash bootloader and firmware with a programmer, e.g. Arduino UNO or ISP USBASP. Prusa uses its own modified bootloader for the i3 printers and is downloadable here: https://github.com/prusa3d/stk500v2-prusa

or here:

https://github.com/PrusaOwners/mk3-32u2-firmware/tree/master/hex_files (DFU-Bootloader-PrusaMK3-32u2.hex)

If you do not have such a facility, I would contact the Prusachat (not by email - takes far too long).

Good luck!

RE: Problem solved - and huge thanks to all on here too.

I think that I’ve fixed it.  I switched from using a Mac (running the now ancient but perfectly functional El Capitan) to a Windows 10 machine and it reflashed without a hitch.  All of the other Prussia Apps run just fine on it.

The Mac showed constant timeout errors in the log along with a message about being unable to talk to the programmer.

Whatever the tizzy fit was about I have no idea but switching to Windows sorted it.

Thank you all for the very quick and helpful responses.  Very much appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback! You are not the first who had problems flashing firmware with a Mac.

👍
