Filament run out sensor questions

Hi all,

New to the Prusa's so I apologize if this is a common question. IT would appear that the 3 times I have run out of filament, the sensor does indeed work...but it seems to catch the run out too late...or something like that. When I go to unload the nub (for that is all there is, a mere 1/8 inch of filament poking out of the boden tube, and completely disengaged from the gears of the extruder.

Is there a fix for this or a way to adjust so that the machine stops sooner so I can reload the machine without having to take things apart, and jam a brass rod down the boden to force out enough pla and make space for the new filament to load?

Note I am not getting Jams per se. but If I try and load new filament onto of the 1/8 in nub I just grind filament. Things will not load unless I manually push the remains of the last roll through the hotend, so that I have space to get the new filament into the boden.

Hope this makes sense, and thank you in advance.

-J

RE: Filament run out sensor questions

with or without MMU2 on your machine? IR sensor should stop the extrusion with filament still in the bondtech gears on a plain MK3s. Finda should stop extrusion on a MK3s with MMU2. if you have a MK3s modified for a MMU2 and have the MMU2 disconnected then extrusion will only stop when the filament is past the bondtech gears ( this is what your problem sounds like). the difference is on a MMU2 modified MK3s the IR sensor is sensing the bondtech gear positions and not filament up at the sensor position

RE: Filament run out sensor questions

I have a regular old M3s as far as I know. I did not buy the MMU2. I do know that the machine stops once the filament is about 1/8 above the boden and 100% disengaged from the Bondtech gears.

I'll be happy to put up some pictures once this current print comes off if you think it would help.
