Extruder clicking on a brand new assembled mk3s

hello,

after only a couple of weeks of printing, the extruder is clicking leading to a jamming and failed prints.

if I unload the filament, cut the tip, and load it again, it works (for a litttle while) - takes 1h or so to get jammed again (or a heat cycle).

when I get the filament out it has always the same shape, a buldge for around 5mm and a pointy tip.

after unloading, and loading again the extrusion is clean, and consistent.

thanks

Quick question: Are you printing in an enclosure or room with ambient temps approaching 40C? The E3D hotend is air cooled and cooling efficiency drops off around 40C. This may cause temperatures to rise to the point that filament -- particularly PLA -- softens prematurely, leading to skips & jams.

@bobstro

thanks for you answer, it is actually a great idea.

I do use an enclosure, although the temp inside never went above 33 or 34 C - I gave it a shot yesterday. for the first time I was able to run a print for more than 2h. this issue now is that I am battling with the opposite problem. the ambient temps is too low, causing bed addision and warpping issue.

My guess is that I will have to swapp to PETG to see if it works better.

cheers.
