Dissolving glue between PEI foil and steel

Hi.

I have destroyed one side of smooth PEI plate so I peeled it off. Used glue stinks real nasty and leaves a lot of residue on steel. I have tried following solvents to remove it without luck:

  • Perchlorethylen
  • Ethanol
  • Toluen
  • Benzin
  • Chloroform
  • Acetone
  • Methylethylketone
  • Dichlormethane
  • S6001 paint thiner
  • S6005 paint thiner
  • S6300 paint thiner

Methylethylketone had slight effect. Paint thinner S6001 had better effect. But still nowhere near enough to wipe the remains off.

I have not yet tried to submerse whole sheet in solvent and let it work overnight. The other side can still be usable. If glue won't come off I will peal off the other side and then put it inside the solvent.

Does anyone know what glue is there? I have never seen stuff like this...

I believe you need limonene to dissolve that glue. Here are instructions from Prusa:

IIRC the glue doesn’t dissolve so much as it just gets soft enough to scrape off.

Limonene works. Not a job for the faint hearted or those affected by very strong smells (orange actually)
