Disable printer beeps

Is it possible to temporarily disable the printer beeps - particularly the loud ones when loading & unloading filament?

This amazing i3 mk3 is now quiet enough to print in the evenings when my kids are in bed, but the beeps are a problem!

Many thanks,

Andrew

Bluetac in the sounder?
Or desolder the sounder.
Or put a switch in the sounder circuit..

I did it the simple way. A piece duct tape on the beeper.
You can also desolder the beeper , connect it to a switch an solder it back to the board.
Then you have your temporarily disabled printer.
You may also solder a small breakoutboard with a switch.
Many scopes to choose.

Thanks. I guess I was thinking along the lines of something less permanent that would hopefully leave my warranty intact.

Being a software engineer by trade, I might look into seeing if there's a switch that can be flipped in the firmware.

I was thinking I must be missing a menu option or something equally obvious!

I bet you can control the beeper voltage somewhere/somehow.
But i fear it´s not that simple. It may require some additional Hardware to control it.
I thought about using a potentiometer, but ended up using a small bit of duct tape.
It significantly reduced the sound level.

Sounds like that could be a good interim solution. Thing is, I'd really like a LOUD beep when the printer has run out of filament, but not when I'm loading/unloading and right in front of it.

I know what you mean.
It would be nice to have presets or "tweakable" values for different operations.

The question has come up before, if you search the forum hopefully you can find the past thread on it. There's nothing built into the firmware but I vaguely recall someone added it themselves to the code once.

The same raucous sounder is used on RAID boards, and many times I have had to take steps to shut one up without altering or damaging the board. Blu-Tac is indeed your friend 🙂

I am a newb, can someone point me to a picture of where the sounder is so I can tape it?

Thanks!

My ears thank you! This gcode print with noises in it scared me so bad earlier D:

The beep issue has been reported in the Prusa firmware section, read more here on github, issue #478

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

I hope providing a feature to turn the beeping off is in the plans. I get my kit on Friday and this was the second thing I thought of. Soldering a switch to a £100 board is a bit different to soldering a £12 Raspberry Pi Zero.

I assume this still hasn't been addressed. The beep is just too loud! I would rather not use tape to cover the speaker.

New firmware releases will provide the ability to mute beeps. There's an RC out now and the final should be released soon.
