Cura/Slic3r PE sliced timing differences
Hi,
having come from a CR-10/Cura 'bckground', Slic3r PE and of course the i3 mk3 are new to me. I've manage to enter the mk3 profile into cura 3.5 using the guide from here. However I am missing a few points :
1..in cura, I am used to seeing the estimated print time after slicing. I cannot see this time displayed in Slic3r ?
2..I use octoprint to print with an advanced estimator for print times. If I slice with cura, for this particular model, I get an estimated time of around 3 hours, but if I slice with Slic3r, then it is 4 hours. This is using similair settings, layer height, infil % and pattern, etc. Is this typical ?
3..Sliced models with cura will not show estimated time remaining on the mk3 display panel. I guess this is embedded into the gcode by Slic3r PE ?
4..I have not configured octoprint with anything mk3 specific, - any recommended mk3 options/plugins ?

It is displayed after you save the gcode file.

Slic3r is likely more accurate since it takes the Mk3 hardware into account. If you enter the same speed, acceleration and jerk settings and use similar retraction, z-lift etc. the times should be closer.

Yes. Slic3r embeds gcode lines to update the time remaining display.

I haven't checked, but I would like to think that the profile downloaded from this website for cura are on par with those of slic3r PE 😉
It is currently 1 1/2 hours into the print, with another 1 1/2 hours to go (estimated, but should be fairly accurate)…..

The print took just under 3 hours. I haven't printed the model with the slic3r generated gcode, but I think the conclusion is that cura sliced models will print significantly faster. Print quality is still another issue.

Ah, I missed the part that you were getting both print times through octoprint. Thought you were going by the time estimates provided by the slicers themselves.

Cura does have some infill and wall printing optimization options that might affect things. I'm sure it varies by size and complexity of the print. I've moved off Cura but want to get back to test 3.5 some more.
