Cleaning stepper bearings

I didn’t install the z screw covers, and I think that one of my z axis steppers may have been affected by dust. If I leave the printer unused for a couple of weeks, the left z axis motor is often frozen to the point that I can’t rotate it between finger and thumb. If I remove the motor and grip the lead screw with my hand I can free it, and then it calibrated and prints normally, although subjectively it does feel slightly gritty when turned manually.

Can anyone suggest an inspection/cleaning procedure for the stepper motor?

You can't do much service on the stepper motors. You should not disassemble them, because they are magnetised with the threaded rod and would lose torque.
If the motor is partially blocked, I would replace it.
