Change Knob direction on LCD Display.

Hi! I have 2 MK3 from Prusa. One has the knob that turns left to scroll down, and Right to scroll up.. The second one, (also from Prusa) scrolls up when you turn left, and down when you turn right... Is there a way to reverse this? It's extremely annoying that 2 machines from the same company would navigate differently.. Thanks!

If they’re both running the same firmware they should rotate the same way, can you confirm?

If not, put them both on the newest firmware to take advantage of the improvements.

They're both on the firmware that was released last week. One has always just navigated the other way. I found a post yesterday that explains how to reverse it in the firmware via the arduino app. Apparently, I'm not the only one in the world with this problem. (albeit a very small problem). I cannot however find a firmware that I can open in The arduino app. I'm not the swiftest with firmware manipulation anyway, but can anyone tell me what I'd need to do to make firmware changes on my prusas? Aside from sending G codes, I've never been able to go behind the scenes.
Thanks all!

Do you replaced the controller (LCD) board ?

Some cheap China borads rotate the wrong way, but this is no problem if you are firm with the firmware, just a litte mod in the firmware.

I would rather change the hardware (reverse two pins from the rotary knob). Otherwise you have to recompile/adjust every new firmware release.

And another way : Change 2 pins on the ribbon cable 😉 But changing the fimweare is the easiest thing to do it, Yes sure, with an recompile and flashing.

Re: Change Knob direction on LCD Display.

I just assembled my MK3s and noticed with the 3.5.3 shipped firmware the knob goes right for down. This very much feels like the wrong direction and make the mistake every time using the printer. This is a completely stock system I assembled from the MK3s kit, so no knockoff LCD. Can we get a firmware fix to allow us to reverse the direction without a hardware hack required?

That would be really helpful. I keep turning it the wrong way every time. I don’t exactly know why the the direction that it’s set now feels so un-natural but it does for me. :geek:

RE: Change Knob direction on LCD Display.

I couldn't figure out how to change the pins in the wires (lol) so I just modified the PCB! I figured out that the pins that need to be swapped are P2-6 and P2-8 on the board side (BTN_EN1 and BTN_EN2 on the LCD side). I just cut the traces on the board and added a jumper wire from the pins the resister.

Here is a link to where I found the button pins: https://forum.repetier.com/discussion/5630/einsy-rambo

I honestly think this is a better solution than messing with the wires or firmware. Now all my clones match my original Prusa machines!! Yay

RE: Change Knob direction on LCD Display.

When the rotary encoder of my LCD board stopped to work I unsoldered it from the board and replaced it with another unit I purchased at Ali-Express. Although both encoders are apparently the same reference, they scroll on opposite directions. Now, to increase temperatures I have to rotate the wheel counter clockwise. I just got used to it, not bothering to mess with the firmware or the wires.
