Can't get PLA to stick to a textured spring sheet.

I am having a hard time getting PLA to stick to a textured spring sheet. I clean the sheet with 99% denatured alcohol. I have washed it with dish detergent and hot water. I have even tried cleaning it with brake cleaner. I have not used acetone. I have tried adjusting the live zed. I have tried slowing the print speed. I am printing inside an enclosure. I have raised the hot end temperature. I have lowered the hot end temperature. I have done likewise with the bed temperature. The prints either warp or come loose altogether. I use a brim and a skirt. I have tried altering the sizes of both. I even tried heating up the filament in my oven to dry it out.The only thing I haven't tried is using the new textured spring sheet I bought.

PTEG prints with no problem. No warping, nothing comes loose. I was always under the impression that PLA was the easiest stuff to print with. That's certainly not been my experience.

I had the same issue

If you are sure of your z calibration, what I did once is to use magigoo glue once. Since then I've no issue anymore.

In general, PETG prints better on a textured sheet and PLA on a smooth one.  With experience you will be able to discard this rule.

Please post a picture of your first layer Z calibration print.

I'll have to do that later, I'm doing a print right now. The first layer calibration print looks just like the one in the instructions though.

I can't seem to figure out how to post pictures.

Had the same issue with bed adhesion appear all of the sudden after years of printing without issues. I just bought a bottle of 3DLac spray, never had an issue anymore on any print surface even when printing extremely narrow features without raft. Highly recommended!

Do you use it every time, once in a while or only once so far?

Clean with IPA between prints.

At the first hint of a problem, use dishwashing detergent and HOT water.

If that's not enough use acetone: once or twice a year at most.

To prevent PETG sticking too tightly to a smooth sheet use Windex, cheap own-brand window cleaner or diluted glue stick.

RE: Can't get PLA to stick to a textured spring sheet.

My suggestion would be to carefully calibrate the Z to the point that the 'brush strokes' of the filament bead just blend in to the texture, when viewed on the underside, as in the side that contacts the build plate.

I would start at first with the internal calibration routine, and when that is dialed in, go to a full-plate print (either the 'my way' one or one of the 3x3 square prints) and be sure that the Z is consistently good all across the build plate.

I'm assuming, of course, that the plate is really most sincerely clean.

My experience is that the textured sheet with PLA is tricky when printing small objects that do not have much of a 'footprint' on the build plate, but should be consistently reliable on larger prints.

Don't be afraid to use something like glue stick or Layerneer as both an adhesion booster and a release agent.  I've found this to be most helpful when printing with break-away supports that have those small 'square wave' footprints.

RE: Can't get PLA to stick to a textured spring sheet.

I have no strict rule, every now and then and for sure before larger prints where I want to be 100% sure that they don't jump off the build plate. After a while I also clean it off with hot water and dish washing solution or IPA to get rid of the 3DLac completely and apply a new thin coat.

No idea why the bed adhesion stopped all of the sudden, my best guess is it had something to do with outgassing of some material in my workshop. The issue appeared at the same time on all of my 5! different print plates on two printers. One of them was brand new from Prusa. All my previous tricks failed like IPA, thorough cleaning and a brief acetone wipe. The only thing that also kinda worked was a thick layer of glue stick, but this is too messy for my taste.

The 3DLac got rid of the issue immediately, great stuff!

I tried posting this once before but the post came in blank. So I'm trying again
