Bare wire for hotend is exposed, was rubbed off from printing

The other day I noticed that one of the wires for the hotend had been rubbed away, exposing the metal wire. It was even causing some of my prints to burn. I had pulled it back and out of the way again, and I was able to finish a print just fine after. I can add some pictures later if that helps.

So my questions are as follows: How should I repair this? Would heatshrink tubing work? Would electrical tape work? Would either of those stand up to the heat of the wire?

In case of damage to the thermistor or the heating cartridge I would rather replace it.
For stripping I would rather use glass fibre sleeving instead of heat shrink tubing.

After looking at it closely I did notice that it was the thermistor wire that is exposed, not the heater cartridge as I initially thought.
