Bad print broke my printer

hey guys, so I had a bad print over night. Pretty much went sideways the moment I fell asleep and the amount of material buildup pretty much screwed my printer. The temp sensor is gone as well as the print fan, parts around it. The lump is just massive and weighs a ton. I know I can order new parts but there has to be something to make sure this won’t happen again.

Is there any kind of sensor that would shut the printer if this happens or something? Any advice will be massively appreciated!

cheers

Hi Ondrej,

Sorry to hear that. BLOB of death is pretty common. So far I haven't seen any sensors which can detect this. The only idea was with image recognition but I haven't seen any implementations so far.

Just to add a bit to Vintage's comment, read this link. It takes you to the guide.

Ok, I should add "OpenSource" implementation :). Does anyone have experience with this service?

Haven't tried it as I still don't run prints unattended. But you can set up your own server rather than rely on their webservice.

@vintagepc

That's cool! Now you've made plans for my weekend. Will try to setup on my atom home server.

By all means - report back!

I have not wanted the overhead on my Pi 3 - but if I switch to a Pi 4 - maybe...
