0.3mm layer height profile for Slic3r

Hi all,

I use the i3 MK3 with 0.4mm nozzle.

I don't have a default profile in Slic3r for 0.3mm layer height. Is that normal?

If I create one of my own I obviously increase layer height from 0.2 to 0.3 but what other settings are advised?

Re: 0.3mm layer height profile for Slic3r

There are other threads discussing this in more detail. JP himself had a discussion going about whether to drop it or not. In short, the official explanation is that 0.3mm heights don't result in any faster prints, so it's been dropped from the officially-maintained profiles. They do have to draw the line on how many things they'll support, and at larger sizes, things don't look as nice, so they'd probably get complaints.

You are, of course, perfectly free to create your own profiles using any height you like. I've created profiles for heights up to 0.64mm for 0.80mm nozzles. There's no real trick. Just pick one of the 3 official profiles that's close and modify to suit your tastes. Just be aware that at larger layer heights, you will run into the max volumetric speed limitations of the E3D V6 extruder, so linear speeds may start to slow down. Thicker layer heights are great for vase mode prints.

I used the search but obviously not good enough, my apologies!

The vase prints are exaclty what I want to use it for, I will experiment for myself. But good to know why there aren't profiles (thought there was something wrong with Slic3r). Thx for that bobstro!

Be aware that print profiles can be tied to printer profiles, so you may well see line height options present when you select a 0.60mm nozzle that aren't present for 0.25mm and vice-versa.

Aha I didn't know that. I ordered a 0.6mm nozzle together with the printer, will give that a try in the future 🙂
