XYZ Fails error: Endstop Not Hit Z Axis

I installed the bear upgrade.  I am having difficulty getting the self-test to be completed successfully.  I get to the xyz calibration test.   I looks to start correctly but as it proceeds down to point 1 of 4, it gets to the point and say Calibration failed.  Check you axes and run again.

Any ideas?

Did you apply the Bear firmware changes?

No, according to the website, there is no firmware upgrade.  Am I missing something?

Bah - I am remembering Firmware change comments from the forum. Not in enough detail to be useful though.

Until our Bear resource shows up, check this discussion on Github. It may add some insights.

Let me also point you to the Bear Discord channel. I have found some very helpful folks there:

Thanks.  Really weird.  The Pinda works.  When it goes down to the bed, it goes to the left of the calibration point, but when it auto homes, it goes right to the point.

What prusa version are you using ? MK3 MK3S? you need to use the Prusa extruder parts specific to your version

IIRC the Bear extruder is a full height extruder. Greg intentionally keeps the Bear full height rather than going short body like an MK3S or my BNBSX. You should be on MK3 firmware for the Z travel to match the original Bear extruder.

I have not kept up with the Bear of late. If there is a new MK3S variant of the Bear, you will need to adjust MK3S firmware to accommodate the taller Bear extruder.

The firmware difference I referenced was only for self-test and calibration. Then you go back to stock.

Woot! My flaky memory is justified!

Delighted you got it working. I am headed down that same road...
