Worn wires due to textile sleeve

I've had to replace parts of my printer (Original i3 MK3S) recently (bed thermistor, print fan) due to damaged cables, and while removing the cable sleeve I noticed a  lot of wear on the hot-end cables. This appears to be aligned perfectly with where the cables from the bottom of the print head merge into the cable sleeve, and it seems that the movement of the print head causes the cable sleeve to be sawing its way through the hot-end cables. 

I have wrapped the damaged cables in tape as a temporary fix, but unfortunately didn't think to take a picture beforehand. You can see the rough position of the damage here in case that explains the problem better. The damage itself is similar to the image from this post but in my case the outer insulation was completely worn through (I could see the metal conductor), and the damage looked more like a clean slice/cut rather than a burn.

Has anyone else encountered this, and can you recommend any proper fixes?

There should be no motion between the cable and the sleeve.

Make sure the nylon support rod is correctly positioned and secured.

For the MK3, refer to Step 35. The MK3S is similar.

Yup - this happened to my MK3S just this week. Thanks for this post. Everything is properly assembled and mounted according to the manual, but seems the sleeve edge does move ever so slightly when the hotend is moved up or down and apparently the edge is sharp enough to slowly rasp away the isolation from the thick red wires. 

Symptom: suddenly had a power out failure mid-print, then noticed that lamps and electric devices in the house flickered exactly when the printer was turned on or off.

The fix: wrapping isolation tape around the wires, and - of course - print a small cylinder (8 mm internal diameter, 45 mm long with a slit down the side) to protect the wires from the edges of the sleeve more permanently.
