Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

Weird. Some people stated this even before Prusa posted it; I wonder what kind of complex algorithm they used to figure it out.
Anyways, Prusa is listening! This clears up any confusion, great company.

No complex algorithm, they have been making printers for some time so they do have experience as to how many printers they can produce per day, week month....

Read this article, a few key sentences and you can determine how many printers MK2s they can produce, MK3 should be similar.

- Printing the parts for one printer takes roughly 24 hours
- we now share almost 1,000 printer into the world every month

Re: Who Has Pre-Ordered A Mk 3 Then?

Actually there were statements about PRUSA delivering 3000 units per month and at the Maker Fare they had that poster stating 6000 units per month (which sounds a little like marketing hype or at least a peak figure)
200 printers printing, and 24h for printing the parts for a new printer yields a theoretical capacity of 6000 printers per month - but that assumes 24/7 production, no weekends, no maintenenance. But 100% utilization does not seem realistic, 50% would be the stated 3000 printers, and that sounds very reasonable, with potential to crank up the production.

The big unknown number is the pre-orders for the MK3, and the delivery of 3rd party components.
I think it is safe to assume that the number of pre-orders is at least as high as the normal production volume, then it's a simple calculation.
It's 6 weeks since the MK3 was announced, if they can produce as fast as the orders came in, then just add 6 weeks to end of November if you order now. That's beginning of January, but with christmas and the supposedly high interest in the MK3 I am actually surprised that they are stating a delivery in January for orders coming in now.

Bottomline - it looks like Prusa is confident that the deliveries will really start in late November and that they can produce in large volumes from the go.
We'll know more in 2 weeks.

Cheers! Georg

According to Customer Support, the MK3 is supposed to ship in the second part of November.

Anyone who ordered between the announcement and November 1st should probably get theirs before Christmas, if you take into account the new comment added to the preorder message, you get a decent indication of ship dates relative to the order dates...

What about the upgrade kits ?

I remember them saying they had difficulty producing the pei sheets. Big numbers of upgrade kits will not help this

I think the best way to gauge when they start shipping units is to watch YouTube and Twitter accounts of people like @3dmakernoob , @joeltelling and @makersmuse as they will undoubtedly get some of the first production units out of the factory so they can get some videos out for the rest of us. I hope to get mine soon after as I intent to do a build video from the beginners pov. But only time will tell.

I would like to see the assembly manual for the MK3 while I waiting for the kit to be shipped. Yep...I'm one of the few people who reads the manual fully before starting a build for a new device like this one. I have read all the manuals for the earlier Prusa machines.

Doubt you'll see that for the same reason you won't see any open source material until it's available..... * CCC **

Do assembled printers go through a different shipping queue than the kits? Or does this not matter much because most orders are just the kits? I ordered the kit.

I have gotten the impression from various posts that kits tend to ship sooner. Makes sense, as there is an additional latency (time to build/test) and resource bottleneck (builders) on the pre-built versions.

I ordered a kit last month. But I think I can assemble it, I am just waiting for it to ship. But I have 6-7 different printers so I have plenty of 3D printer tasks to help pass the time with. 😆

When I ordered my MK2, the difference in lead times was two weeks. MK2 kits took about 6 weeks and the assembled kits were 8 weeks. I ordered May of 2017 and the lead times stayed about the same for quite a while.
