Vibration dampener MK3/MK3S

After spending some time searching for vibration dampener/ noise reduction for MK3/MK3S I found this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1891939 design as the most effective (basing on people's experience). Did anybody try those with MK3 printers?

i use the low profile option of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2796596 on my mk3s in a Lack enclosure and they work great

Stefan of CNC Kitchen has a couple of videos on this topic that are well worth watching:

I went down the rabbit hole of reducing noise after moving my Mk3 to an audio equipment rack, but wanted to increase the printer mass to reduce mechanical noise as well as isolate the printer from the cabinet to avoid resonant noise.

@bobstro Do you use pavement brick or stayed with plastic dampeners? Also, do you have experience with DryLin linear bearings? I heard they may help but buying new rods is mandatory as those bearing has a little bigger diameter which causes some play between the rod and bearing surface.

@david-a66 Right now I am printing dampeners you mentioned before. I wonder if plastic may scratch the table surface. Do you use any rubber between dampener and table?

Felt pads on the printer to couple it to the paver. Sorbothane isolator feet under the paver to decouple it from the shelf.

Watch the CNC Kitchen videos to see why those feet may not be what you want.

And do you have experience with DryLin linear bearings? I heard they may help but buying new rods is mandatory as those bearing has a little bigger diameter which causes some play between the rod and bearing surface.

Have not tried this. From what I've read, they're a bit loose. The high end bearings and rods sounds like the (expensive) way to go. Not a top priority for me yet.

Actually, those bearing are pretty cheap 🙂 They are made from some kind of plastic impregnated with lubricant. Aluminum rods are required for some reason (cost of aluminum > cost of steel or stainless steel).

So if I understand it correctly, the paver is for capturing vibrations in a big mass and stiff material; felt pads for transferring vibrations from the printer to the paver; sorbethane for isolating working unit from the environment. Could you please provide a link of pavers you bought/which worked well for you? Are they made of concrete, granite?

These dampeners https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2796596 works like a charm 🙂 I used high profile. The printer is a little wobbly but not too much (used PET-G) so I am very satisfied.

Does someone used NEMA 17 dampers for stepper motor by any chance? What was the result?

Is using NEMA 17 dampers on my MK2.5 and they work well. The noise is reduced to about half, but not close to MK3's low level.

Not tried it on my MK3S.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

I use the same feet used in the vibration dampening vid, but I jammed the rubber feet that came with the printer into the centers of them and put felt on the bottom. I need to get a paver and see if I can make a solid mount screwed into the paver to reduce more of my slight ghosting. still, at the current state, my vibrations are not too bad.

and we’ll be saying a big hello to all intelligent life forms everywhere … and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys.
