unstabe USB connection

I immediately get to the point:

do you print with reliability only from SD?
with Cura or simplify3d you nail the process and throw away hours of work
with octoprint it is unstable
with astroprint it is unstable

is it in the process of creating an image to have even minimal control of the printer remotely?
alternatives ??????

regards

Re: unstabe USB connection

I never print from SD (oh well, I used the bundled SD card to print the test parts, and many Pink Adalindas for friends).

I use S3D on a dedicated PC to print via USB, and never failed a print.

The USB connection in the early days of the Mk3 firmware was known to make prints fail. I'm not sure how it is now as I stopped using it 😉

I use the FlashAIR SD card solution detailed on this forum, so I can drop files onto the SD card over the network and then just go to the printer to start it.

Re: unstabe USB connection

Hello, I am printing from SD card and it works fine.
I also want to be able to control the MK3 from my lap top. However I have never been able to do so.
When using Siplified3D it can't connect.
When using Pronterface it connects but I can not control the printer in any way.
I have also tried Repetier Host whithout success.
My firmware is 3,4,0-1327 I am using Widows10.
Prusa MK3 is on Com3 with errors in the "device manager".
Computer is Acer V5 with i5 1.7Ghz.
I do not have any Raspery Pi.
Anyone any ideas how I can fix this? /Thanks

How, exactly, do you want to control the printer? We've been using Slic3r PE and Pronterface exclusively (as we seem to have a wonky SD slot/reader--it randomly stops printing, wasting hours & filament).

We haven't done a lot of printer adjustments--mostly through Slic3r (I honestly don't recall if we've tinkered thru Pronterface other than tacking some g code on the front/back of files).

That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!

Re: unstabe USB connection

Yes my slot reader sometimes fails but the reason for wanting to control tru Pronterface is that I want to explore the possibilities to recover for example when I have a failed print after printing for 24hrs or so.
I can connect to the printer via Pronterface, it says "the printer is now online".
I can not do anything, I can not extrude, control the temperature or move the extruder.
Sometimes I can hear the cooling fan starts for a few seconds othewise it is dead. 😥

Re: unstabe USB connection

Have you disabled the raspberry pi interface via the LCD menu

If the internal raspi port is enabled. The sub port is unable to control the printer.
