[Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

I opened the following issue with pics I collected from the "tired and indignant" thread: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/602

Can you guys, if it's not much trouble, print a single wall cube with no infill or top/bottom, then take a pic of it with light shining down the wall from above? Trying to determine if this is a universal issue or not.

Edit: Please post these images on the Github issue as well, I will update the issue with the images posted thus far.

Thanks!

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

OK. I'm one of those MK3 users who have said that they haven't had any problems with my MK3. I have 2 MK2S in addition to the MK3 and all 3 were pre-built by PRUSA. I have run these test cubes on the MK2S before and when I got the MK3. In my opinion the MK3 test cube was as good if not better than those printed on the 2 MK2S.

Parameters:
- FoxSmart PLA Grey - about 9 months old (~$14/KG). I've had it drying in an oven at 40C for about 3 months until about 2 weeks ago when I started using this roll again. The spool in about 1/5 from the center (FoxSmart Spools have a smaller diameter than most other brands) so the filament gets pretty curly at this stage.
- 1 Perimeter
- No top layers
- 2 bottom layers
- Slic3r PE (latest version), profile 0.1 Detail with default settings)
- Extruder 215/210
- Bed 60/60
- Extruder Multiplier = 1 (this was set using Hatchbox PLA White, haven't checked with this FoxSmart PLA)

- 1st "printer" TIKO 3D
- 2nd PRUSA i3 MK2S with MMU v1
- 3rd PRUSA i3 MK2S
- 4th PRUSA i3 MK3 with MMU v2- 5th?? PRUSA i3 MK4 (upgraded from MK3) with MMU v3 (waiting for…

Can you take a pic of this same cube, but with the light shining down from above? This is a specific requirement to see the artifact.

Thanks

Also, just to prove I am not being sarcastic, here's an example with spot on lighting like your photo (my phone flash) vs light from an angle (flash off):

Is vase mode OK for this test?

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

Here are some samples.

Firmware 3.1.3
Prusa Gray PLA opened 20days ago.
88% Flow tuned manually.

Honestly they look good to me overall. This is as "bad" as I could make it look with the lighting.

The first 3 are using prusacontrol. The GCODE says "generated by Slic3r 1.37.2.1-prusa3d".
Double wall with a base.

The next 3 are using slicer. The GCODE says "generated by Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.39.1-prusa3d".
Single wall, no base, with brim.

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

these are my test prints in vase mode, 150u Prusa PLA settings. Tried to use the sun as skimming light, but I'm not sure if you see in here also the artifacts you're looking for? They look pretty fine to me.
BTW: I have 2 mk3's. The gray one (Prusa silver PLA) is printed on a self assembled kit, the dark red one (Filamentum PLA) on a pre-assembled one. Both have stock FW 3.1.3.

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

For a point of reference, can someone post pictures of a similarly lit piece that does NOT show the artifacts? Doesn't have to be from a Prusa machine.

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

Can you take a picture not along the lines but across them, from bottom to top at an angle?

It seems to me that is the best way to see the variance best.

Having to hunt for pics, that isn't my own. I only have a MK3. 🙂

Add me to the list. I won't be able to take pics until tonight, but I have about 400 small one-layer cubes laying around that look like garbage with the light shining from above... lol.

Re: [Testers Needed] Inconsistent Extrusion

I’m not sure if I’m having this problem or not. I couldn’t get a clear still pic that shows what I’m seeing so here is a short video of my results:

What do you think? On one hand, my vertical lines look cleaner and more consistent than many of the pics here. But you can see a bit of a salmon skin effect when the angle changes.
