Speaker beeps - too loud! Any way to disable or lower volume?

I have my printer set up at a desk at work, and have finally gotten over the (short) clicks the speaker makes during menu selections, etc. But the beep during unload filament is so loud, I'm afraid that I'm disturbing my coworkers. Let alone trying to print a sample gcode for z adjust that has M300 soudns built in (I will be removing them from my file), I'm worried someone will think it's a fire alarm or something.

Is there any way to lower the volume of the speaker? Maybe add a configuration option in a future firmware update? Or should I just figure out how to pull the speaker out of the front panel so it doesn't make any noise ever again?

I took someone else's advice and just stuffed the hole with blu-tack and it isn't a problem any more.

There's an issue on the Prusa GitHub, it's been discussed as a possible future enhancement. Not sure where it is in the queue though.

Ah, there's nothing like your filament sensor detecting a false runout and the annoying beeping of the printer at 3:30AM. It's happened to me twice and both times it woke me up in a panic thinking my printer was on fire or something.

I upgraded to new firmware (latest release to this date, dont know the number now).

The feature is already there. You can opt between 4 modes (loud, siilent, mute and another one idk anymore. It is in the settings at the bottom. 😉

Nice printing!

When you get a second could you let me know where those settings are? I can't seem to find them.

Of course, no problem: When in start screen, click the knob. Then go settings and scroll down to the very bottom. It is the last entry sound:

My firmware version is: 3.3.1 - 845

Well... it really isn't April 1st... how strange is that 🙂

Where did you get your Firmware from?

I loaded it from Prusa's Github about a week ago and compiled myself because of a minor change (max_z).

Let me guess you loaded the .hex-file from the Drivers Page? Seems like there is a difference then although the FW-version is the same.

Yes Marvin,
I was a good girl... (Most of the time)
I got my copy from the Drivers page...

I guess we know what on of the forthcoming updates is going to be! 🙂

I guess the version number gets changed late in the update process

31 Aug 18, still waiting for the firmware update to turn off the loud beep so I don't wake my housemate. 🙁

RE: Speaker beeps - too loud! Any way to disable or lower volume?

I'm running firmware 3.7.2 on my mk3S, and I run in mute mode because others in my household are sleeping. But when I turn off the printer power at the switch, I still get a loud beep! Somehow that switch didn't get the mute memo! Is there any way to disable that beep, short of cutting the trace to the beeper, or crushing it with a pliers?

Blu-tack here as well. Apply directly to the little speaker's output hole, not the enclosure grill.

Workw anywhere there is a small annunciator. You can vary the volume by changing how much of the opening you cover.

Covering the hole on the piezo "speaker" with tape works as well. (I mention this in case you don't have blu-tack handy, but there is a roll of painter's tape near your printers... for some reason...) 😉
