Re: Someone on Reddit is reporting they were shipped an MK3S

I'm confused sir, you said they are handling it the right way but why do I not see this strategy popularly used by other companies? Nope, you may be born a couple of decades ago but business has been around for centuries. Again I refer to smartphone manufacturers as an example; they manufacture and store the new product (ofc, quantity depends on the demand, estimated by the marketing team) > announce it > ship it right away or very soon. Shipping an unannounced product to lucky customers is stupid.

Edit: Oh and FYI, those who "cancel" their orders are not going to be vanished in thin air. They cancel because they want the new model and they would even pay more for it. The manufacturer is not losing money and speaking of money, Prusa has been operating as a private bank since 2016. Why is it fair for Prusa to charge us upfront for the products they cannot ship for months but its not fair for us as customers to cancel orders and wait for the newer ones?

the smartphone market and specialty items are completely different, you will always find retailers that take any amount of excess stock of your hands as there is constant demand in the smartphone market and the big players are big enough to afford that people wait for the next product.

small business can not afford that, it doesnt matter if the customers now want to buy the new model, the time between announcing he new model and actually earning money with it is what wrecks the cash flow.

That prusa charges upfront and delivers later may not be the nicest thing but you know that before you order just as you know what you have ordered.
The only argument that could be made here is that people got something different from what they ordered, not that it matters as its an upgrade but lets say you specifically wanted the old filament sensor and now you got the new one that would be a legitimate complaint.

The only legitimate complaint of yours is not legitimate actually (please see below) and your definition of "small business" and how the business model should work is like a kid waving hand to the pilot flying above the clouds. Keep waving.

Here's hoping that people who bought in february get some sort of expedited upgrade path, we already had the choice of the fancy new coated steel sheet removed.
We all do. $19 to print the parts yourself, $40 for pre-printed parts. The printer I bought last year and was happy with still prints well. This doesn't make all my previous prints turn to crap. It's a very incremental upgrade. I'm not in a big hurry, but may buy it eventually.

Edit: Just realized I don't need to. From the product page:

ALL MMU2 OWNERS WILL GET THIS UPGRADE FOR FREE AS A PART OF MMU2S UPGRADE.

Per the announcement, they're also taking action on both the PEI PC textured sheets and Prusament availability. Things are moving in a positive direction, albeit slowly. I don't see too many companies taking this much care of their existing customers. I'm impatient, but I'm pleased.

Things I missed:

- are the printable parts online?
- are the PTFE tubes the same length as before?
- the heat block has a special dot. What is different about it?

The parts are here to print.

I am still piecing together a list of everything I need to print. The MMU2 branch hasn't been updated but the mk3s branch has a bunch of mmu2 parts. Based on the models it looks like they are replacing the finda probe on the mmu with the same sensor they put in the extruder.

The files on git hub are looking good. Unfortunately the adaptor I designed for my Full Print Volume Volcano Modification to suit the R3 parts will not work with the R4/MK3S parts. As a result I will have to do either a modified extruder cover or a new adaptor. I should have this done in a couple of days.

Posted 4 hours ago, nice. I'll have to sort out what pieces need to be printed/replaced for the upgrade.

I am just hoping they post the filament accumulator plans online soon, doesn't look too difficult to build.

It reminds me of the filament wallets. Seems like it takes up even more space.

Yeah, their's seems a bit more condensed than some of them. I already have my spools set up in an enclosure with room in front of them for some sort of filament management. I just hadn't gotten as far as seeing if I need one or how I want to build one since I just finished rebuilding my enclosure for the mmu2.

The MK3S printable pieces are on prusa's site now too, and it only includes the 11 pieces that are needed (where Github has a dump of all of the printed pieces for a new printer).
https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/

It doesn't have the MMU2S changes yet, but neither did github.

TLDR, thanks 🙂 I can kill my cron that looks for changes on that page now.

"ALL MMU2 OWNERS WILL GET THIS UPGRADE FOR FREE AS A PART OF MMU2S UPGRADE."

So, uh, I guess I don't need to order it.

It is possible to order the MK3 to MK3s upgrade now from the shop.

Is it just me, or is the upgrade manual missing from the manual.prusa3d.com website?

Re: Someone on Reddit is reporting they were shipped an MK3S

Hello all,

I have started work on updating my Full Print Volume Volcano Modification to the Prusa i3 MK3S. I am a bit concerned about the PINDA holder it is reduced in size from the R3 version and as such I am not sure if it has a good enough clamp on the probe. I will run off a test print in PLA to check. Hopefully I will not have to modify the extruder body to lower the probe mount.

Martin

Hello Martin, everyone,

I received my 24V Volcano kit and want to upgrade the standard MK3S to the Volcano. I am lost between printing parts to replace the whole extruder 3D printed parts: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2989361

and between printing only a fan mod without other extruded tampering : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3507197

I dont' mind having the print volume reduced by 10mm.

Please give me your opinion and the easiest way forward... and if you have a better solution than the above links...

Many thanks to all.
Anwar

Re: Someone on Reddit is reporting they were shipped an MK3S

Hello Anwar, Everyone

First of all my Full Print Volume Volcano Modification has been upgraded and will now work with the MK2.5, MK3, MK2.5S and MK3S.

Unfortunately due to the position of the PINDA mount on the standard MK3S extruder the minimum upgrade from standard MK3S to Volcano MK3S it is best to replace the extruder with a Volcano compatible one. As you can see from the photo in the mod you referenced the PINDA probe is held by it's very end. This will lead to instability and uneven first layers.

If you use the extruder body form my mod you will also need to used the motor plate and extruder cover at a bare minimum as I have incorporated a more secure heatsink clamp in the design to eliminated any chance of wobble there. Until Prusa updates the firmware to allow for the extra 5mm in vertical build that the MK3S allows you might just be able to use this minimum without custom firmware as there is already 3mm tolerancing in the build height in the base MK3 giving 8mm in the MK3S and the Volcano needs 8.5mm extra for the full volume.

Regards,
Martin
