Re: So how many are waiting for textured powder coated build surface?

$74 is a bit too much for my blood.

if you check the thread where someone was going to do up 200 pei sticker sheets aftermarket and sell them it is about the same when including shipping.

how prusa is going to make any money selling them for 25 and 29 i have no idea. even the buildtaks (which thekkiinngg sheet is clearing better than) sell for $99

Build-Taks aren't too much higher than Prusa.. Flex-Plate is ~$25 plus shipping and replacement Build-Tak build sheets can be had for around $10 each. So I guess a double sided Build-Tak will come in around $50 plus shipping. Can get 10% off if you have academic email...

I just received a shipping notice and since I don't think it's the MMU 2.0 I'm thinking it's my Powder Coated build plate. Expected to arrive Wednesday.

What were you expecting it to look like?

I thought PEI was gold colored, not black. Is it not so? I thought maybe they had shipped me a BuildTak(ish) sheet, or something. Is there a way to know for sure just what it is exactly?

i would assume chemical analysis. however, I tried pet-g and it stuck good even with window cleaner and i tried PC and without gluestick it would not even stick (which is how PC reacts to regular PEI without gluestick.

plus buildtak, in my experience doesn't last especially with high temp prints and this has had no issues, so far.

edit, go take a look at the prusa versions they are dark colored as well.

right, the prusa's have the forever dual surface powder coated plates for 25, and a plate with two sheets of PEI (at around $9 replacement cost each) for 29 which values the plate alone at $10 or less.

btw i went to buildtak's site to see what the costs were $26 for a plain plate and $15 each for the buildtak sheets, so $55 plus shipping. still more than double what prusa is charging for a superior product.

Agreed'ish, two caveats though... At present it's not possible to purchase a steel sheet setup from Prusa and don't forget to factor in $20 minimum in shipping, well $19.73, from Prusa, unless of course you're in the EU. (not sure how their shipping works, PEI sheets only are $10 and change and via UPS anything else has to go DHL and is $19.73) So YMMV with shipping costs for the steel sheets when available.

I also have academic email so received a 10% discount from BT...

I personally would love to have the textured build sheet and will purchase one the day it's available, however, at the moment they can't be had. Also, if you have Amazon Prime and drop the Build Tak sheets, 10X10 for the Prusa, in your cart they fluctuate between $30 and $40 throughout the day for a 3 pack with free shipping.

On a side note, I don't have much experience with the Build Tak sheets and did not really like them at first but they are growing on me. I've been using the BT sheet exclusively for a few weeks now and find small contact surface area prints stick way better to it than the Prusa PEI. Also, I'm kind of hard on the sheet as I took an F'it approach after having difficulty removing prints and so far it's holding up quite nicely.

i've had painters tape, kapton with elmers glue, buildtak, and now PEI. PEI is has way more longevity than buildtak, The PEI i had had bubbles under it but the surface was still perfect, PEI only tears if you don't use window cleaner on it for PETG, whatever you do with buildtak do not print petg it will ruin the sheet. plus over time build tak looses adhesion but PEI only needs a little acetone or a light sanding with a scotchpad and things will stick to it for ever. PEI on this printer has lasted the longest of any surface I have ever used. and after i replace the pei stickers i will never again print anything on that sheet but PLA. all the high temp will be on the new spring steel i got from ebay or the powder coated prusas. I intend to own at least one of both the matte and glossy powder coated versions.

I bought the ebay powder coated PEI sheet to hold me until i could get the stickers replaced but it prints so nice I think it will be my primary until the prusa sheets are available.

So this is an endorsement for the quality of the Ebay sheet? Please elaborate as I'm interested. If it works as advertised it has what I'm looking for, textured first layer. I have no issues with the PEI sheet but have come to like the matte look of a first layer printed on a textured surface.

You can also get that surface with painters tape... depending on type.... cheaper than an $80 plate....

Yes, having one edge glossy and the rest textured does make that glossy side look out of place. I would say on this particular sheet i do not know the longevity, I've only been using it for 6 days but it has held it's own on a bunch of abs prints, a polycarbonate print, each of these was sustained temps over 110 on the bed and plastic at 255-270 as well as several PLA prints with no issues. The same no drama situation as the original prusa sheet with the exception of some live z dialing. i should just breakdown and calibrate it but i've only had to change it when doing back to back high temp prints, so 2-3 6 hr prints back to back.

False, there's no mention of that in the article: https://www.prusaprinters.org/mk3-is-shipping

The sheets are considered consumables but we are offering the $10 voucher for textured powder coated steel sheet to everyone who receives the printer with smooth PEI “sticker” sheet and free shipping with it. We want you guys to be happy. We are also working on ways to provide special affordable shipping for sheets on every continent.

Someone will cite the source because I don't have time to dig it out but Prusa made an announcement that orders past a certain date would no longer receive vouchers for the powder coated PEI sheets. I believe this announcement was made around the time he announced that the MK2.5 orders were being shipped. If I manage to find the article I will link it in an edit. I'm starting my work shift now so I don't have time.

Edit: here's the blog post about the voucher cutoff. https://www.prusaprinters.org/original-prusa-i3-mk3-3-months/

Outdated blog post is outdated. Here's a more recent one after three months (dated March 9th, per the e-mail I received): https://www.prusaprinters.org/original-prusa-i3-mk3-3-months/

For new orders you have to select which sheet version you want. Smooth with faster shipping or textured with additional delay. No vouchers will be issued for new orders.

Week 9 black kit with powder coated sheet. I've waited this long, figure I might as well stick it out. Prusa may be good tech people, business people not so much.

Yeah, Same here. Week 9, Black kit with powder coated sheet. NOT black, Orange kit 😕

Just a follow-up to my last post in case it helps someone decide...after contacting Prusa via chat this past Saturday (16th) and switching my order back to the smooth sheet to avoid any further wait...I had a tracking number by Monday and the kit was delivered via DHL yesterday (Wednesday).
