So how many are waiting for textured powder coated build surface?

I'm holding out and this is my first 3D printer so it's quite tough knowing if I change to PEI a shipping number could show up fairly quickly now.

This is for a week 15 black parts with powder coated sheet. I see where they are supposed to start shipping the powder coated sheets at the end of this month but I have to wonder of there are a bunch of others doing the same.

Just curious to see how many there may be.

Week 9 black kit with powder coated sheet. I've waited this long, figure I might as well stick it out. Prusa may be good tech people, business people not so much.

I would like more removable build sheets, stick on pei would do, textured would give the option of alternate finish... at the moment we simply can't access any additional build surfaces.

my mk2.5 upgrade is sitting in a box, because I am using the build sheet on my mk2mmu...

I am using the mk2 mmu, because the mk3 mmu v2 isn't released yet...

bit of a circular issue!

Joan

How did you even order it? I don't see them on their website.

I ordered my printer in October with it (told them to hold it until available). Prusa asked us in March to take the printer with the smooth PEI sheet and advised that they would ship us a textured sheet when available at no cost. So I guess it means that they have started to build inventory of textured sheets and can make good on their undertaking.

Having just had the smooth sheet fail with a jagged section 15mm x 6mm coming away, apparently as the 5mm x 50mm printed part section exerted enough effort mid length onto it to split it away when I made the minimal release bend, and on trying to get a replacement being told I am unable to get another, I don't think I will be rushing to buy the textured one!

Failed on the sixth print............. Not Happy!

Damn, You've been waiting since October 2017. Man I hope it's worth it. I ordered my Printer in week 9 of 2018, I wonder how many people have held off waiting for the same thing before me 😯 It maybe a long wait, But it should be worth it.......I hope.

So a week 15 (Apr 2018) is still a ways off unless there aren't too many who have decided to wait. One can only hope they start pumping out these orders but based on everything else posted here that seems unlikely.

Re: So how many are waiting for textured powder coated build surface?

ian.c16 reported that he read on Reddit that his week 9 black kit with PC plates would not ship until September(!!). I asked Chat if this was correct, and they said it was not true. I was informed that they would have the PC plates "sooner or later." Does not inspire confidence, does it?

I think that if I don't receive a shipping notice by the end of June, I will be cancelling my order.

Re: So how many are waiting for textured powder coated build surface?

Seems like a great machine with a great community behind it but it sure has been a bizarre ordering experience...

When I placed my MK3 kit order in April the website was indicating a projected mid-May ship date. I checked back a couple of days later and the site was updated and the projected ship date was changed to mid-June. I had originally ordered the smooth PEI plate because at the time the textured plate was adding a shipping delay.

At this point the website was indicating that textured plates would be shipping in mid-June (about the same time my kit was supposed to ship). So, I contact Prusa via chat and explain that I would have ordered the textured plate had I known my order wasn't shipping until mid-June (when the textured plates were supposedly going to be available). They very politely changed my order to the textured plate.

I just checked in today via chat to see when my order might ship. I was told it will be another two months before the textured plates will be shipping. I asked them to change my order back to the smooth plate as I've been waiting two months for my order and would rather not wait another two months.

Alternative and works verry well now at V2 : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Prusa-i3-Mk3-Mk2-5-Double-sided-Pei-TEXTURED-Powder-Coated-spring-steel-sheet-V2/332649969907?hash=item4d737bb8f3:g:E18AAOSw5rFa9wIc

I received it today. Honestly, I'm wondering if I've been scammed:

Is that how it's supposed to look?

It's a 3rd party knock off and looks like the pictures in the Ebay listing. What were you expecting it to look like?

have you tried printing with it? I've been printing on it non-stop, including pet-g with no issues. I had bubbles on both sides of my original plate, and i'm waiting for limonene from amazon so I can get all the adhesive off, this is working perfect for now. it is thinner and I have had some issues with getting back to back prints to stick (especially higher temp prints) the pinda and live z seem to be the issue but i have it mostly sorted.

here is a frog geocache in abs vs one printed on the pei sticker sheet that came with my printer. you can see a little of where i was dialing in z on the fly but once i had it right it is perfect.
