Slic3r: Can you mark an object not to print without deleting it.

I have been a Cura user for years and its not uncommon for me to load many objects.. Leave the scattered around the environment, and then move them on/off the bad as I want them.

For example, as I download something from Thingiverse with 4 parts.. But only 2 fit on the bed each time, I load all 4.. Move them around to get them to fit (i.e get 3 on the bed) and then leave the 4th in the background until the first 3 have printed.

In Slic3r, it seems you cna't do this... When you move an object off the bed so it goes blue, you can't slice it until you either move it back to the bed, or delete it.

Is there a way to 'ignore' an object so that the project still slices?

slic3r p.e. has an option to split the model into parts which you can delete individually. just right click the model and choose split. alternatively, to split models quickly and easily, i use tinkercad https://www.tinkercad.com/#/ it is very easy to learn and use, plus its free!

This isnt about splitting an object.. i want to move something off the bed and leave it in the background but still slice.

This can be for many reasons.. say i have a job with many parts and want to move them around to get a fit and leave the others in the background for the next job.

Or sometimes i might move objects off the bed so i can slice one to see how long it will take.

In cura, it only slices whats on the bed. You can have loads of objects in the application, but not on the bed. but it seems that in Slic3r, it will only slice when everything is on the bed and it wont ignore the blue ones which have been moved off...

I'm not sure about new slic3r version, but before you can put objects outside bed and it will slice, but doesnt print them because they are out of bounds.
You can try it

That is exactly what I expected and want.. But when you move objects off the bed, they change from green to blue.. And whilst you have blue objects, you can't slice.

You can only slice if you move them back to the bed... Or delete them.. And its really annoying, as I often leave things in the background whilst I work on my current job...

Well that's a new feature, noob proof but for experienced users can cause that trouble.
Since there aren't other way, you must remove the objects you don't want, or scale down to 0.1% or even low, that will not print such small detail and will be ignored on slicer. Then when you want to print scale back to 100%, that way you can position every thing in place and dont need to off place them

I can do exactly what you describe running Slic3rPE 1.41.0-beta+ on Mac. I can move models off the bed so they're marked blue, rearrange those items on bed and generate gcode that only includes the items on the bed. I don't know when this capability was added, but you can always try running the beta to see if it works for you.

Very odd.. I am running 1.40.1 Win64 (PC) and as soon as I move any object off the bed, I get a message at the bottom of the screen saying "Detected object outside print volume" and the "Slice Now" and "Export G-code" options go grey...

I don't mind trying the beta, but I can't believe this feature was added...

I am sure I am missing something really obvious here.

Well.. I stand corrected.. I just tried 1.41.0 Beta and low and behold, it works.. You still get he "Object Detected outside of print volume" message but you can still slice/export.

This is first class.. I don't really want to use the BETA, but atleast I know this 'feature' is coming, so will live with what I have for now.

Edit: I spoke to soon.. After slicing, I looked at the layer view, the object off the bed has been sliced too... So I am not convinced this is working.. And further more, it looks to me like the printer will try to print something off the bed and it could lead to a 'crash'.

Edit2: Ignore that.. I tried again and now its only slicing the object on the bed.. I created 2 small objects and put them on the bed, and after exporting the print time was 25mins.. I then moved one off.. Exported again, and now the print time is 12 mins.. So its clearly working. But my initial test certainly ended with an object out in space, sliced ready to print.

Put the code into a gcode viewer. I use IdeaMaker but you use gcode.ws for a quick online check. The skirt is a good hint. If the skirt is entirely on the bed in preview, it should only include parts it bounds.
