Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Thanks for the excellent product! I spent some time assembling the kit and can finally start printing. I am having a bit of trouble with the FFF profile here - I can't get the print fan to work. It seems to work fine with the bundled Simplify3D profile, and the only difference I see is in the following options:

Blip fan to full power when increasing from idle (not selected in the bundled profile, selected with this one)
Bridge fan speed override (not selected in the bundled one, set to 80% in this one)

Otherwise they seem identical. Any ideas on what can be wrong here?

Self test passes fine, and I see the fan spinning. With the bundled profile it spins as well.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I have tried the settings and I don't like them at all. They are to hard in the movement and produce bumps on flat surfaces from organic formed skulptures which are produced for example in meshmixer.
Maybe they are good for technical stuff..... I didn't try yet, but the FFF Settings for the Original Prusa I3 MK3 which come with the 4.0.1 Update behave alot smoother.

Hi! Could you share that file .FFF ?
thanks in advance

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I keep getting crash detected and it completely screws up several layers in the middle of my prints. Using default mk3 profile and a file that worked fine in slic3r. Printing from SD, fail stats show crashes in Y.

Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

One difference between slic3rand S3D is Z-Hop. Slic3r has a vertical lift of 0.6 and S3D 0.0, not sure why they set this to such a large value. But this could prevent crashes.

I ended up just turning off crash detection and now get very nice prints. I tried adding z-hop, but I still kept getting crashes in Y only.

i had this happen twice for me with the makergeeks petg profile. it laid the 1st layer perfect, then had a crash on the start of the 2nd layer. it rehomed, then when it went back to printing, it started higher than the 2nd layer, causing it to not adhere to the first layer.

In the G-code tab, you might want to uncheck the " firmware configuration checkbox", it's hard to tell, but it could be that SF overrides acceleration and speed settings ? I added an acceleration and jerk line to the start script, according to the Slic3e PE settings, and the travel speeds are at 170mm/s

here's what my start code looks like:

M107
;M115 U3.1.1-RC5 ; tell printer latest fw version
M201 X1000 Y1000 Z200 E5000 ; sets maximum accelerations mm/sec^2
M203 X200 Y200 Z12 E120 ; sets maximum feedrates mm/sec
M204 S1250 T1250 ; sets acceleration (S) and retract acceleration (T)
M205 X10 Y10 Z0.4 E2.5 ; sets the jerk limits
mm/sec

G28 W ; home all axes without mesh bed leveling
G80 ; run mesh bed leveling routine

M900 K30

G1 Y-3.0 F1000.0 ; prepare to prime
G92 E0 ; reset extrusion distance
G1 X60.0 E9.0 F1000.0 ; priming
G1 X100.0 E12.5 F1000.0 ; priming

the primings lines might not be ideal, but they work for me.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I did quick MK3 settings for Simplify3D.

100um, 150um and 200um presets with PLA, ABS, PET and ColorFabbXT presets.

Feel free to test it out.

What I were not able to figure myself out is how to force the first layer to print at set speed instead of percentage slow down. When you slow down 200mm/s infill and 35mm/s perimeter to 20% (so infill actually sticks to the bed) the perimeter gets painfully slow :-/ Any ideas?

Are there any more recent FFFs from Josef's first post on this thread? Or is that the most recent?

Nevermind, went through all the entire thread, whew. Seems like the best "stock" one is from Simplify3D, but it's a bit slow... Will play with that one.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

anyone have a good petg profile i can use? im currently trying the makergeeks petg profile listed earlier in this thread, but i always seem to get many crashes detected, then when it rehomes, it continues the print higher than the last layer causing more crashes on the next layer.

I don't think it's gcode related. Crash detection is firmware/printer related.

i just sliced the same stl with the slic3r PE and didnt have a single issue. going to try and use all the slic3r settings into s3d and see if its the same.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Is the firmware overriding flow and first layer height/width? I can't seem to change the layer width at all - nor can I adjust the flow. My first layers are terribly over-extruding, so much so that the second layer gets collision errors! None of my first layer settings seem to get taken into consideration... The only thing I have control over is the Z height, but then my adhesion goes out the window. Help?

Here is a copy of my PETG profile I made. It works well with the eSun PETG, but should be fine with other types...

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Has anyone sorted out improved speed settings from the default S3D profile that will take advantage of how fast the MK3 can apparently run? I dug through this thread and did some web searches but haven't found any complete examples from people for different values in the Speeds tab.

Thanks!

I think the dropdown in Simplify3D when you add the printer is the latest version.

go to the help dropdown tab, and select configuration assistant, then choose prusa mk3 from the dropdown menu.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Does anyone have slicer settings for 0.1mm layer height that is smooth? (really smooth for little objects) 😀

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I am new the forums and awaiting the mk3.

Question: I have been using S3d and wish to continue.
Came across this posting and see so many FFF profiles and wondering which to use?
