Re: i3 Mk3 printing voids

Hey all, I am getting some voids or lace-like printed sections with prints I have printed successfully before. This is not a new issue for me, but it is becoming more frequent. Same PLA, same settings, same STL file, but re-sliced each time as I delete used G-code. This seems to begin at about the same "Z" height, (17.20+/-) but also occurs several times during longer/taller prints. Could this be a hardware, firmware, G-code problem or what? Any assistance would be appreciated. Best, Steve Thomas-USA

Could be a bad wire to the extruder. As Z moves up the angle changes how the cable bundle is bent and it makes connection or doesn't. I had results a little like that on first assembly due to a bad joint in the hotend thermistor cable.

Thank you for the quick response. I will check for that. Do you think an issue with the filament sensor would cause this type of problem as well? Best, Steve

If there's a problem with the filament sensor, I would expect that you'd either get an error (because it thinks the filament has run out) or a successful print — the filament sensor does not control the extrusion rate.

Also check if your extruder idler tension is set high enough so the filament isn't slipping.
