Print out of center

I have a problem with my MK3S / Slic3rPE
My printer prints the objects about 10-15mm to the left of the bed
It is centered in both Slic3rPE and Slic3rPE-1.42.0-beta2, but then I have to print it to the left of the center
Anyone else who has experienced this?

Re: Print out of center

This could be a build problem, or a symptom of a crash.

Make sure the extruder plastic around the bearings contacts the left X-Axis support when in the HOME position. Cable ties, loosen wrapping of the wire bundle, wrong screws in the cooling fan, all contribute to an offset. But usually the other direction.

You might power off and see how easily the extruder moves left to right. Any sticky points can cause what you are seeing. These should show up as a "X crash" in the detection stats in the LCD menus.

Short of that, maybe a Slic3r config issue... but unless you've modified the profiles, doesn't seem likely. But check this setting:

Bed shape settings are correct
The printer knows where the print area is, it cuts off what goes outside the area it looks like

Re: Print out of center

The only other thing that makes sense for what you are seeing is the printer homes, then moves a centimeter or so to the right - but stalling the whole time. That's why I asked about whether a crash is being reported in the stats. Basically the extruder moves left to home, jams due to friction, and have a problem moving right. It would explain why X-gain and linearity aren't affected.

You could also look at the gcode and determine if the positions are making sense. It would eliminate the slice as the issue.

Just finished with a 10 hour print, no crash, and it prints just fine, homes properly and the axes move smooth, belt tension X = 268 Y = 271
And if I get it to crash under the printing homes it's fine and continues where it stopped
Why it prints a little to the left I don't understand

Re: Print out of center

I keep trying to tell you one reason, and how to check it, but I don't think you understanding it. Also asked you about inspecting the gcode itself; and it doesn't sound like you've done that, either. So I doubt I can help you. Best of luck figuring it out.

By the way - a crash isn't a failed print; a crash (in FDM terms) is an electronic detection of a motor stall. The stats screen looks something like this (with a failing printer):

Okay, I'm sorry, but I've done what you asked me, except look at the gcode, because I don't know what to look for and how?
And when I say no crash on the last print I have of course checked it, see the picture
Thank you so much for your help, didn't mean to make you upset

Re: Print out of center

No worries, I'm not upset: simply don't know how to proceed.

Upload an stl and gcode that exhibits the problem. First copy the files into a ZIP file/folder. Then upload it here. I'll look to see if anything jumps out.

The only thing making any sense is the offset in the slicer is wrong, or the printer is trying but unable to move from home, but stalling. If you have tried manually (by hand) moving the extruder left right and don't feel any sticky points, stalling is unlikely. That leaves something off about the slice.

XY position is very simple, no magic stuff at all with how the printer moves the extruder around. A command and the X and Y distance to move.
G1 X101.418 Y100.544 E0.02460

If the first few commands show the X to be 0 when printing the part, then the slicer is the problem. If the smallest X is 10 or 20, but the print is at 0, the printer must have something odd happening.

I've solved the problem now, I checked xyz calibration and it showed around -5mm on X
so I recalibrated XZY and now it prints correctly 🙂
I do not know what went wrong last time I calibrated, but now it's ok 🙂
So thanks for the help 🙂

Good to hear.

I'd still check for sticky movement at the left edge of movement. If they are too tight for whatever reason the problem might come back, or you might see other issues start. Bearings and rods can catch, even a cable tie on the extruder harness rotated a bit and is catching at the power supply.

I have new belts and idlers in reserve so I'm going to replace them, rods and bearings are only a few months old (belts and idlers too) and properly greased
But I'll check them one by one so I'm sure everything runs smooth
