Power on/off

Hi I just finished assembling and setting up my new MK3s+, my first 3d printer ever, and I love it. I was just wondering if I should turn it off every night, or if I should leave it powered on all the time.

Thanks!

RE: Power on/off

Whichever suits you.  There are risks.

The printer will always draw some power unless the PS switch is OFF.

If you leave the switch ON, in some cases after a print, the motors may not be fully disabled and will continue to heat. Later firmware releases have tried to deal with this, but I wonder if they are catching everything. Heaters are turned off - but these are electronically controlled -- a board failure can cause a heater to turn on and stay on. Printers have caught on fire when this happens.

So balance the risk with your comfort zone.

At first, I turned it off whenever I wasn't looking at it.  New things - infant mortality - all that; plus the warnings from friends printers burn houses down.  Today - the darned thing runs so much I don't have time to turn it off; and I sleep with it printing on into the night. Caveat: I do keep my smoke detector batteries fresh.

Turn it off when its not printing but allow it to cool with its own fans first.
