Power coated sheets delayed again.

I just read the powder coated sheets are delayed "AGAIN" till the end of September. I'll believe it when i see it. I've been waiting since December when I ordered it as many other have too. I thought they were on top of this already. Now it just seems like excuses after excuse and just when you think its over, it's just not. More waiting........

[Updated: August 21st, 2018] We are shipping orders with powder-coated sheets too now. We estimate to have the textured powder-coated sheets available separately on the e-shop at the end of September 2018. We had a bit of an issue where our manufacturer of the sheets had the factory closed down for 2 weeks recently, so now we are catching up to the backlog of orders. The $10 vouchers with free shipping for ordering these will be released shortly after the sheets are added on the e-shop. (Eligible orders are the ones without a sheet selection, before March 2018, that received the default sheet version, orders directly selecting sheet with the smooth double-sided PEI to shorter lead time are not eligible.) Also, the smooth double-sided PEI sheets are available for separate purchase on the e-shop for MK3 kit or printer owners!

Re: Power coated sheets delayed again.

But is that delayed again for those who order new printers today, or those who ordered a couple of months ago, or those who ordered a printer a year ago? /s

No, the delay is for adding them for purchase separately to your order. Currently, based on the shipping table and my call to support, it would appear they have adjusted shooing if assembled printers with powder coated sheets 1-2 weeks to the right.

Re: Power coated sheets delayed again.

I got an update email from Prusa today that contains the following:

Powder coated steel sheets are kind of never-ending story. We have already managed to send a few thousand printers (lead time for new orders is 3 weeks now), but we still don’t have enough powder coated sheets to offer them for separate orders.

Our suppliers are still not able to hit the quality point we demand. We are still returning a high percentage of sheets back to the supplier, which causes further delays. Currently, we estimate that we could start selling powder coated sheets as separate orders in the second half of October.

It's an estimate, but it's outside their control. We'll have to manage to live with the smooth sheets for a bit longer.

Yeah hearing about things like this is a slap in the face each time i read them.

If i ever order another prusa printer it will be at least a year after launch so i can be like one of the people you just mentioned and actually get everything that was advertised.

Re: Power coated sheets delayed again.

Yeah this is pretty disappointing. I understand that the circumstances leading to the shortage of them is out of Prusa's control, and I understand why people who intentionally chose to wait get it first; but what is in Prusa's control and what I don't understand is why it is that people who ordered their printer months upon months ago aren't given first crack at the powdered sheets that do come in before the people who are just now ordering their printers?

I'd put my $25 down now if it meant I could get it with the two-week lead time that a completely new order gets.

In fact, it may very well end up costing me more money having to wait, even with the voucher(ordered in late feb 2018, not sure if that means I just get the $10 voucher or what). If I had the option to get it with the 2 week lead time they could ship it with the MMU 2.0 that I ordered and save somewhere around $20 in shipping, and I'd be getting it somewhere between a month and two months earlier. Assuming that I'm still in the range that gets the voucher and free shipping for it, they could save themselves the money.

Re: Power coated sheets delayed again.

It gets me little mad knowing people who order a printer with the PC sheet only have to wait 2-3 weeks to get it. I ordered my printer in Oct 2017 and still have to wait for them to have enough for new orders and extra to ship to those who purchased in 2017.

💡 Take care of us who been waiting for a year before giving new orders the option to get one with the printers, once you catch up with back orders then offer the PC Sheets with new orders.

It's pretty disappointing that Prusa Research seems to have that kind of mindset despite being a small* company in a pretty tight-knit community like the 3D printing one is. I really get that there are some growing pains, but there have been some pretty bad delays with a lot of stuff involving the MK3 (I was not around for the MK2, so I don't know if this is business as usual)

What REALLY gets me is that it seems entirely unjustifiable to make people who paid the same price earlier, and then waited for months just for the printer to come in, and now have been waiting months for the PC sheets to wait even longer while some person who orders it today can get the printer and the PC sheet in just over two weeks. It's completely backwards and it defies explanation aside from the "They already have our money" and it's easier to sell a feature complete printer to a customer and make the people who waited wait longer.

I really like my MK3, and I don't want to be one of those people saying "oh I'll never buy a Prusa [in the first year/ever again]" but... seriously? I am one of those people now. I can understand that the manufacturing problems of the powder coated sheet are not their fault, but the way that they're choosing to distribute them is solely their fault.

In 7 days time it will be exactly one year since I ordered my first Mk3 and the powder coated sheet was one of the reasons I put my money down - I dealt with Limonene and PEI replacement once on my Mk2S I never wish to repeat the experience, so I was really excited to see this was no longer required on the Mk3.

A year ago I trusted Prusa to always do the right thing for their loyal customers.

I am genuinely sorry to say that is now no longer the case.

Re: Power coated sheets delayed again.

I've been toying with this idea for a few weeks....

Order a new Mk3 kit w/textured PEI as a "parts" machine to supplement my current Mk3. Keep all the parts I might need, sell off the rest (IE: frame, steppers) on eBay. I'll get the powder coated sheet sooner and have a full set of Mk3 replacement parts in house. Don't think I'll actually do it, but it's one solution.

I love my MK3 . And I would definitely by prusa products. But I am hesitant to recommend them to any one with out much warning.
