Re: Powder Coated PEI Steel Sheet

hopped in to find some news about the ordered powdered pei-sheet ... and noticed others have the same question.

So, the same for me:
ordered the MK3 with powdered sheet september 2017 I think.
Received the MK3 around april 2018-ish ...
read multiple reports about the powdered sheet,
got an e-mail about the vouchers ... answered and confirmed my desire to still want that powdered sheet ..
never heared from Prusa about this issue again ...

Same here. And i think that we get the vouchers, if we get them in the end of this year. But what could we do? Nothing. We still have to wait.

For PLA the smooth sheet is fine but I mostly print in PETG and the 1st few layers are always an issue. No matter how much tweaking I do or what glue stick i try its nearly always lifts or detaches completely. I've tried over and over again adjusting Z and speeds, and temps, its always the same. Poor bed adhesion and many many failed prints. Again if it wasn't for Octoprint nearly all of them would be trash.

Don't get me wrong the printer is fine and like I said my 1st printer with the textured sheet is great. I've run it nearly non stop for the last several months and aside from normal maintenance it just prints, and prints, and prints. But the smooth sheet with PETG sucks.

Now its completely understandable that Prusa doesn't want to make promises they cant keep. I don't think anyone blames them for not setting ETA's, but it would be a great ideal to post updates somewhere. Maybe a weekly blog post like. "This Weeks Textured Plate Hurtles". Spend 1/2 hour a week updating the blog and let customers comment on what may help move this ball along. I'm sure Prusa and the plate manufacture have top engineers working on it but they cant know everything and it sometimes takes a fresh perspective to fix a problem. Just saying it couldn't hurt and if customers could see that progress is being made that would buy Prusa more time and help build customer relations.

I have been printing on PETG for over a year now with the smooth sheet and when my prints don't stick it is usually one of these things.
- 1st layer height
- Print surface is not clean. ( I wash it with soap and water, then alcohol. Every now and then I give it a good scrubbing with Baking Soda)
-Elmers glue stick seems to be the only one that works. I tried Amazon glue sticks and they do not work at all.
- I slow the first layer down. Usually by half of what the Prusa PETG preset is.
-Play with the temps. Some PETG like a lower temp around 225 or 230 for some reason. Others like it hot around 235 to 250.

My last trick I used to do when I could not get it to print was using painters tape. Works every time. Before I knew what I was doing if I had a failure and was in a hurry I would use painters tape with glue stick.
Good Luck. PETG can be frustrating but it is worth it.

Re: Powder Coated PEI Steel Sheet

Seems like they added to the shipping table that there will be 1000 more vouchers sent out by the end of February for textured sheets for orders before October 2nd. To me it seems like we should be further along in the clearing the backlog than that.. At this rate it will be mid to late 2019 before orders from 2017 are cleared...
Oh well, at least it's an update i guess. 🙁

I'm curious to know how many they shipped with new printers before they realized it was wrong to do so before filling the backlog...

Lots.. I don't think they realized at all. They were just sick of us complaining so they did it. My guess was to entice new sales on new orders. They already got our money so whats the rush.

That was a business decision and no matter what you think, it was their decision to make.

It is time to move on front eh victim mentality and be happy they changed their minds.

Not sure where you're getting the victim mentality from, would be akin to me calling you a fanboy apologist, which I'm not, just sayin. I never cried victim never will I'll only claim to be a wisened consumer with a memory like an elephant. I've posted elsewhere on this forum today that overall I'm happy with my purchase just not happy with the handling of the problem and that's my right as a consumer.

I am not neccesarily an apologist. I am a realist. There is no use getting upset about milk that is already spiled.

I see a lot folks upset that the upgrade is not free and the PC plate. I have two and it is ok. I bought on on ebay for 26 plus shipping. It did nto even say it was a PC. I was very surprised it was not a sticker PEI when I opened the box.

We launched a Kickstarter last week for PEI coated sheets and flex-plate systems for all 3D printers. I would be happy to answer any questions. 🙂

Just got the voucher for the PEI Powder Coated Sheet a few minutes ago. I purchased my MK3 back in October 2017.

I thought they said in the blog that shipping was not entirely by date but date and country.

They did and I believe jzkmath is a Hokie if so we're very close geographically... That being said I got the email and placed the order for my sheet. Happy guy after 14 months of waiting.

Voucher for the powder coated sheet just received here in the UK, against my order for Mk2/S to Mk2.5 upgrade kit placed on 18th October 2017. That's 17 months.

You will enjoy the bed. I have two - bought on off eBay. I thought it would be PEI sheets but was pleasntly surprised.

The powder coated is a nice addition but I still sue the PEI sheets for most prints.

Please post a picture when you get yours. Prusa said there were some changes this go around so I'm curious to see what it looks like. Also, it will make me more jealous  😆
