Original Prusa i3 MK3S vs MK3 + important links

Hi,
it is very important to learn the difference between MK3S+/MK3S and MK3, as they aren't the same printers!

  • MK3 uses B7/R3 (revision numbers printed directly on the extruder) extruder design with Optical filament sensor => Needs its own MK3 firmware
  • MK3S uses different extruder design and an IR-sensor => Needs its own MK3S firmware
  • MK3S+ uses a SuperPINDA sensor and y-axis bearing clips. => Uses the same firmware as MK3S

Please keep this mind! Flashing incorrect firmware will cause issues with the IR-sensor!

Did you know that each printer we produce has its own main section in our help section? It is your one stop location for links to everything you will need for your printer including:

  • Firmware
  • Drivers & Apps (includes PrusaSlicer)
  • Printable parts
  • Assembly manuals
  • 3D printing handbook

Think waiting is bad now..

Your printer will arrive. You will get it ready to print... once it is running you will stare at it for ages. Wondering how it decides how to lay down the filament....

After a number of models. You may find yourself printing the castle at 0.050 layer height .. .

And then it will start....

If only you had a second printer, more colours; different filaments.....

It is a slippery slope

You will start talking 3d printing. You will start printing parts to repair things... then to upgrade things. Then make things to protect your filament... boxes for your tools...

YOU ARE HOOKED...

🙂

THERE IS NO CURE

Have fun...

Joan

Joan, you are sooo right.

You want to leave work early, go to bed late. Show your better half all the nice things you have printed, she will of course not understand what you are talking about.

A good tip, cancel the order and still have a life..

Re: The most important links - Original Prusa i3 MK3

But wait there's more...all the people that want you to make them something and think it will only take a few minutes at most. You say "3D Printer" and they hear "Star Trek Replicator". Then your appreciation of time begins to waver. It starts with "It took 17+ HOURS to print that dinky little castle!" to "What's 90+ hours? Walk in the park." Then the anal retentiveness to detail starts at "Not too shabby." as you look at a model full of over extrusion, blobs, and lousy first layer to "OMG! Total failure. Gotta tweak my settings." as you look at one barely visible bit of stringing between two points.

Oh the fun you will have.

This person speaks truth.

After the sample prints I wanted to put the printer through its paces, so I printed a near max height one of these https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2666281 at .1 layer height, no spiral mode. I forgot to turn 20% infill off, but let it fly anyway (mistake). 50.5 hours later I had a beautiful blue vase and half my sanity.

Well done!
I was wondering why this hadn't been done yet.
Seems to me that it "could" save people a bunch of time.
Not to mention Tech Support questions. 🙂

The "Prusa Print" version of Octopi should be added to the list. And also probably to the Others section of the Drivers page.

Re: The most important links - Original Prusa i3 MK3

I have ordered my Prusa I3 mk3 kit in October, when the Prusa Website advertised it as due to start shipping in November. Then November became LATE November, then December, then January, then late January, etc. I'm fet ups with the constant lies and marketing hype from Prusa. But it makes sense, Joe Prusa is more about Marketing hype than anything else.

Before this Sunday January 14th, my Prusa Kit was displayed as due to ship this week, that is the week of January 15th. Then precisely one day before, on Sunday 14th, that information got updated from the 15th, to the 29th. Take that dear customer. And if it were not the 4th time such new delays had happened since I had ordered.

Several e-mails I got from Prusa Support staff imply they knew form the begining it was going to ship end of November, but when I had ordered, it said November, not late November. Therefore a blatant lie, designed to mislead clients just to get their orders locked in. Anyhow, we are no longer counting the lies from Prusa Research, are we ?

For less than the price of the Prusa kit which never arrived, I have ordered a Flogertech FT-5 R2 (which has just arrived, only several days after ordering), and also ordered a Bondtech extruder straight from Sweden, an E3D hotend straight from E3D, and a Duet WIFI with TMC2660 integrated drivers over SPI > all of which have arrived less than one week after having ordered, perhaps Joe Prusa could get some tips from all these guys on how to run an efficient business, rather than spending all his time Marketing and clowning on Youtube. Certainly, it works, I fell for it myself, but one only falls to it once.

PS. Had Prusa been honest about delivery times, and had they shown in October a delivery time for January, I may have ordered, or I may not have ordered, but I would never have been frustrated about it. Actually, it is probable I would have ordered and waited. But it is the constant lies, delays, the drip by drip information, which were really too much (BECAUSE THEY ARE PLAIN LIES DESIGNED SIMPLY TO GET CUSTOMERS TO SUBSIDIZE PRUSA'S ROLLING STOCK) There a banks for this, or Kickstarter, no need to lie to customers ! I was very sympathetic to Joe's case against PayPal. But now I really wonder whether PayPal had not a valid reason to be suspicious about Prusa's cash-flows and business practices. It seems actually that they did have a valid point, and that Joe Prusa is a great comedian on YouTube.

Okay, it will take forever (remember time is relative) to get your MK3/kit. I have tried every way possible to bribe my way to the top of the queue without success. I know your thinking what low pond scum, but don't deny it you all tried also. Oh yes you did.
During this gestation time for your MK3/kit I advise reading all the manuals once, twice...twenty times. Then read any material and look at all the YouTube videos on all the tricks to good 3D printing. Josef has done us a favor by intentional holding your (he has 1000s just sitting in his warehouse) 3D printer from you. HE WANTS YOU TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. He knows you will rip into the box and take the manuals and throw them aside (I don't need no stinking instructions), eat the gummy bears, slam the printer together (if you bought the kit), plug it in and wonder why it does not work like the prior post said like a "Star Trek Replicator". Yes, don't deny it, you will be like a kid at Christmas when it arrives. So, do yourself a favor and study everything you can about 3D printing if you do not already have the burnt fingers of experience (that why it says HOT).

As for me, I cannot wait to rip into the box...

I cannot wait, hey Josef how about a trip to Disneyland.

From Josef Prusa:-

PSA MK3 FW 3.1.1 final is ready here https://github.com/prusa…/Prusa-Firmware/releases/tag/v3.1.1 👍 Feel free to install it, I will put it on the website tomorrow 🙂 3.1.2 RC1 with LA and other tweaks will follow in next week or so. Aaand if you are feeling adventurous, we have alfa version of Slic3rPE with extremely acurate print time estimation 😎 https://github.com/…/Slic…/releases/tag/version_1.39.1-alpha Use it separately from the driver install and load settings via Help -> Configuration wizard. Happy printing 🖖

Suggestion: Add the the top post that there is no current CURA support. It'll save a lot of time looking for stuff that doesn't exist. When https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/mk3-cura-profile--t13916.html this gets a little more mature, it is a place to start.

I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.
