Just received my new MK3S+

I ordered a MK3S a week or so ago and it shipped on Monday.  I see the announcement yesterday of the new MK3S+ and was disappointed that I just missed out on the updated version.

But wait -- when my printer arrived today, it was the updated MK3S+ model!  Thanks Prusa, for shipping the upgraded versions, even before the announcement of the new models!

I haven't started the assembly yet -- that's an adventure for later this week or the weekend.  I'm excited to get started!

Maybe they announced it because the printers were going to arrive in the wild!

You are indeed fortunate. Mine arrived today but is the standard MK3S. Furthermore It did not come with assembly instructions. While that is available on line, it is disappointing for someone with no experience not to have the detailed instructions open on the desk in front of me on the same plane I am working on.

That's a bummer David.  Mine did come with a manual too.  It is v3.2 manual that was released for the MK3S+.  As @cwbullet said, I'd contact them and request the manual.  You might want to ask about the cutoff dates for when new orders received the MK3S+ kit.  My order was placed on Nov 14 and shipped on Nov 23.

There is supposedly an upgrade kit which is supposed to ship January.  Maybe if you have a later non-plus MK3S you can sweet-talk them into shipping you one gratis.

People has already tried this and failed.  Maybe a manual, but probably not an upgrade kit.

RE: Just received my new MK3S+

I looked over the specs for the new Plus version and it seems to me that the differences are mainly the New Improved Super Pinda and some clips to replace the u-bolts, with some redesigned extruder parts and enough PETg filament to print them.

I was thinking that after the dust settles, just ordering the New Improved Super Pinda as a replacement part, printing the replacement parts (I have more than enough black/orange PETg) and doing kind of a FrankenPlus upgrade.

I know it includes a New Improved filament sensor, but reading between the lines I probably can't use that since I have the MMU2S, and the sensor on that works quite well.

Not sure.  I think the upgrade is worth the price.  The metal parts to replace the u-bolts are probaby not cheap.  The SuperPinda is 25-26 by itself.

Sadly, I guess they won't even be persuaded to let me have an assembly manual. I found a one paragraph note in the package telling me that "due to Covid situation, we have 'temporarily' run out of  MK3S manuals". That is now evidently not true. They have permanently run out because they are not selling that model any more, following my order, and have no intention of reprinting it. If Covid was anything other than a smokescreen round this issue they would be out of manuals for the MK3S+ as well.

Life deals you the odd "wrong place, wrong time" hand occasionally, so I get being hung out to dry as possibly the last recipient on the planet of an old model. But being treated as a simpleton during my first interaction with the company, does not sit well.

I was persuaded to go with Prusa, and to build it myself, precisely because of their enthusiast community culture rather than bland corporate. I was persuaded that my apprehension over building it was unfounded because Prusa's detailed instruction manual was second to none, and if anything went wrong Prusa would do their best to help. I feel that I may have been misinformed.

I am not sure you can confidently say why they ran out.  They ran out for a week to several weeks and it has been posted on the forum, Reddit, and Facebook.   It was worth a try to get one.  I understand your suspicions but that does not make it not due to covid also.

Call me an old cynic... but a: I don't believe in coincidences, b: nobody is going to start reprinting assembly instructions for something they apparently no longer build since last week, so regardless of the reason it was not "temporary". c: if they thought it was important that I actually have the instructions on the desk, they would have printed a copy themselves and put in the box. d: the alternative would be to do as they have for others and simply sent a MK3S+ with its manual, all of which is the same price as I have been charged (and I'd have happily paid extra for the damn thing), and finally e: there is little point in me asking for a future copy which won't arrive until after I have hopefully completed the assembly. Though God knows how long that is going to take me...

...In the meantime i am trying to stop, start, rewind and play Frank's 3D Shop video assembly on an iPad on the printer desk. But I cannot see what he is looking at on his own copy of the manual  on his desk. So, I am continually having to stop and go to my computer on the other side of my office to determine exactly which components and hardware I need in preparation for the next step.

In fairness, I wouldn't have expected any of the above from any of the cheaper corporate competitors out there. But I did, from what i had been told, expect better from Prusa.

This is not a user friendly experience for the uninitiated.

By the way, please don't think I am having a pop at you, cwbullet. I am just a bit rattled by the whole experience, and my own decision to buy Prusa which I spent weeks of research to arrive at. If only I had deliberated for another 24 hours!!

I have never used my manual.  I used the online instructions.  They are easier to see and you can zoom in on the parts in the photos.  You can also order a copy if you really want one.  My only grip would be they should have given you a discount.

Well, I'm in the UK, where Thanksgiving doesn't apply. But I apologise most sincerely if I have ruined your family's celebratory day.

I hope BREXIT makes our counties closer.  I am of English and Scottish lineage and have a soft place in my heart for the homeland.  I traveled by bicycle for 10 weeks and camped one summer in college.  My brother and I really enjoyed the countryside.  I found the pubs and people very welcoming.

Honestly, you will want to use the online documentation over anything printed anyhow.

The community comments and advice for some steps is really important, especially for a beginner. I had no idea what I was doing, but took my time, and read through the comments for each step before attempting it.

DO NOT RUSH IT.

Good luck!

I have my second mk3s arriving in two weeks or so... 🙂
