How tall is MK3s+ with spool installed?

I don't have my MK3S+ yet, but I'm having some cabinets made for above table it would sit on.   I was wondering if having cabinets 24" off the desk surface is enough to fit a MK3S+ with spool, or if I should extend this further?  I've looked and can't find any dimensions for how much clearance height is needed during operation of the printer.

Alternative, is it possible to relocate spool to the side/back/etc like the Mini+ ?   I searched extensively about this and couldn't find any pictures of someone doing this, though some enclosures I saw offer alternative mounting solutions, so seems possible?  Would this impact printing reliability at all?  Thanks!

A MK3S+ is 600mm high (23 5/8”in old money) with spools on the provided holder. However I suggest allowing more headroom so you can sit the printer on a nice heavy paving slab and some foam.

This setup makes a huge difference to the printer noise levels as it stops vibration being coupled into the desktop which otherwise acts as a quite effective amplifier.

No additional clearance height is needed for printer operation, but you will need a clear footprint of about 22” square to sit the printer within which allows for the travel of the bed in the Y axis.

Most solutions for mounting filament spools off the frame tend to place them above the printer so you may want to allow for that as well. The key point is that the extruder needs to be able pull filament smoothly from the spool.   Placing the filament spool in other locations can probably be done but you are going to need some sort of tube arrangement and guides to provide a smooth filament path to the extruder.

Cheers,

Tim
