Firmware 3.7.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

WARNING: Note that MK3S, MK3, MK2.5S and MK2.5 are different printers! Each has its own firmware file!!!

Hi guys,
this is a final version of the firmware recommended to all users 😎

What is new?

  • Rambo board overheating fix
  • Enabled watchdog for MK2.5S & MK2.5
  • Octoprint MMU load failed fix
  • Bed preheat error fix
  • SPI flash error is not blocking the printer anymore
  • IR-sensor self-test fail message added
  • Menu items text overflowing fix
  • Linearity correction not saved to EEPROM fix

Watchdog fix
In the firmware version 3.7.1-FINAL we added on MK2.5 and MK2.5S printers a watchdog for better safety. In firmware 3.7.1-RC1 the watchdog was only added to MK2.5.

Rambo board overheating fix:
In the firmware version 3.5.2 and higher, we have increased the PWM frequency to reduce noise from the new PSU (black case). In some cases, the Rambo board overheated. We have now reduced this frequency to 32 Hz so that both, old PSU (silver case) and new PSU (black case) are quiet enough and not overheating.

Octoprint MMU load failed fix:
On the older firmware version for MK2.5S and MK3S printers printer doesn't pause after MMU2 load error when printing from Octoprint. The new behaviour is, that when printing from Octoprint T-command failure block execution of following commands. The printer doesn't respond "OK" to Octoprint until T-command is successfully finished. There is blocking message "MMU load failed" on the status screen and each time printer knob is pushed, printer retries filament load to nozzle move.#1652

Bed preheat error fix:
This release fixes false detection of bed preheat error. Minimum temperature rise slope criterion in the time domain was relaxed.

SPI flash error is not blocking the printer anymore:
MK3S & MK3 error message "External SPI flash W25X20CL is not responding." is no more completely blocking printer operation. Now it is shown during splash screen and it is possible to use printer, only available language is English.

Other:
- Enabled watchdog for MK2.5S & MK2.5
- Translation corrections
- IR-sensor self-test fail message added
- Menu items text overflowing fix
- Linearity correction not saved to EEPROM fix

RE: Firmware 3.7.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

Found a minor bug.

If you go into the menu and then hold down the button and scroll it at the same time then it is possible to end up in a state where button clicks stop working.
It looks like the menu for changing z axis (long pressing knob on info menu) gets triggered in the middle of another menu by accident.

Found this by accident when i accidentally pressed the button on wrong menu entry but before releasing it i started scrolling.

RE: Firmware 3.7.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

I let Slic3r update but now when I hook up my PC to my MK3S to flash to 3.7.1 the flash fails.  Any tips on why this could be failing?  I definitely have the 3.7.1 for the MK3S that I am trying to load, but I get a mismatch error.

*Now the file seems to be printing fine without giving the update message on the printer.  The printer shows 3.7.1

RE: Firmware 3.7.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

Hello everyone -

I've been VERY happily printing on my MK3S for over three months, but I've been 3D printing for over a year.  I regularly check for FW updates, etc., and recently downloaded the 3.7.1.  After flashing, I printed a model and noticed my silver PSU was clicking much more than usual; in fact it was clicking about every second during the entire three hours.  I wouldn't say it was super loud, but noticeable enough.  I re-flashed to the 3.7.0 FW and the clicking became quieter and less consistent.

I was careful to download for MK3S, so I don't know if I should flash again or wait for the next update.  Anyone else notice this issue?

This is known. They partially reverted the PWM changes that were made in 3.6 due to overheating concerns by the high PWM frequency chosen.

Mine is clicking again too... but I guess you have to live with it to reduce the risk of your board overheating (or get the newer black supply)

Thanks vintagepc.  Looks like a new PSU is in my future (unless I just decide to get used to the silver one....).

I find that after installing 3.7.1 Models that were printing flawlessly on 3.6.x now severely overextrude, with blobs showing up even in the skirt.

I should add that this is an MK3/S with ~750 hours of print time. Do I need to recalibrate x-steps on a firmware upgrade? I noticed that I lost lifetime statistics on the upgrade.

When you start a print without filament loaded, it doesn't stop extruding the filament after you've said yes to "is it the right color".

Is it supposed to do that?

RE: Firmware 3.7.1-FINAL for MK3 Problems

I upgraded 2 MK3 printers a couple of weeks ago to 3.7.1 and have been getting some strangeness.

On one, i am getting periodic Printer Fan errors which  cause the print to stop and then it can be restarted. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the fan itself.

On the other, I got Bed Heating Error, basically the bed had no light and would not turn on.

I reflashed both today and the heated bed works on the one and no more fan errors, yet, on the other..

Linearity Correction Setting - issue?

Is anyone else on a MK3S and 3.7.1 seeing weird symbols when setting linearity correction to anything other than OFF?

LCD display issues were patched in latest commits on Prusa GitHub as of May 23, 2019

I suspect the fixes will migrate to release firmware soon. Meanwhile, the fixes have been pushed to my 0.9 degree motor support firmware https://github.com/guykuo/Prusa-Firmware/tree/0.9-Degree-Stepper-Support
