Error: Max Temp

I came into my print room and my MK3s was sounding an alarm!

I was a couple minutes into a petg print and saw that the hotend temp read 597 degrees!  This isn't even possible is it?

Not sure what to troubleshoot.  I replaced the entire hotend/heat break with an E3d nozzle a month ago.  I'm guessing it's a bad thermistor but showing this temperature makes me wonder if it's a bad board or something now?

Love to hear some ideas!

This could be the result of a short circuit thermistor.
what temperature does it show at rest?
unplugging the thermistor should give a mintemp error and show less than 15C probably 0C.
if the temperature shows high at rest, try wiggling the cable bundle behind the extruder, see if it changes

The physical heat the printer is able to reach is really approx 300 degrees celsius.  Is that true?  I have to leave right now but will inspect thermistor this afternoon.

Thank you Joan.

@co3darts

Hotend can reach about 295C on a standard mk3 series printer but I wold never try to work at that temperature because any fluctuation is likely to take you over the limit into Maxtemp!
