[...] Hence, I tried to overdo the smartarsing to the point where I thought it would have been obvious and totally over the top to emphasise exactly that point.
Your response was actually very good and informative. It's easy to overlook the amount of pre-WWII history many countries have even if we don't hear much about it in daily life.
