Ahahaha. Ironic timing. I just spent the weekend getting Cura playing nicely with the mk3. 😀

Looking forward to having a play with these.

Infill speed with 170 mm/s seems kind fast?
I had to turn it waaay down in larger prints.

Or is it because I customized some other settings?

Edit: Also I want to thank you for providing cura settings and a really nice manual on how to do it!

I had also just finished building a machine profile for Cura, and got it to work well. With the amount of effort I put into building that, I'm hesitant to switch. Anyone had time to use these new settings?

You want to chuck your settings up here as well? I'm doing some overall tuning with my machine be interested in at least comparing settings in-game and in with some basic test prints.

Your current settings don't get lost.
It takes 10 minutes to set up, plus an print test.

I turned down the speed, switched zhop on and some infill changes.

Thanks! Nice to see official settings. What other materials are being tested for Cura?

My MK3 arrives on monday, and I'm excited like a little kid before christmas 😀

Thanks! As far as i see the M900 is nowhere here. Any way to provide it specific per filament type instead of start g code for the printer in Cura?

Can you give a quick summary of what was updated/changed? Good to know what we might want to address in custom (or modified Prusa) profiles, also how Prusa Research sees Cura interacting with the MK3.

Hi CynicalOwl,
we've changed retraction, amount of infill and disabled supports by default. Mostly small tweaks to improve the print quality. Changelog is in the first post and in the downloaded package.

Can you please be more specific on "how Prusa Research sees Cura interacting with the MK3." ?
Thanks 😉

Oh changelog, should have opened the package. Perfect 🙂

I'm just interested what Prusa is working on or identifying as printer-specific settings - hardware/firmware interaction vs day to day quality/performance settings. Helps to further understand the myriad of control points in any slicer. Also I'm testing switching from Slic3R and curious what settings aren't a 1:1 transfer.

Thanks

Re: Cura settings for the Original Prusa i3 MK3, MK2.5 and MK2/S

I can't dig into details, since this is a field of expertise of my colleagues, however, for Cura we took the previously used custom profiles, printed test objects on MK2.5/MK3 and evaluated them. Josef and our printing gurus are experienced enough to recognise the source of the defect on a printed object, so they tweak the profile and print it again. This repeats until we find settings, we are satisfied with.

Modern slicers are pretty complex and each developer has his unique way of thinking, so from what I've seen the software differs in its logic, which can result in different print quality under the same settings. Even our fork of Slic3r differs in some parts from the original Slic3r in terms of internal logic.

Another great influencer are materials since there are no rules for the quality, every producer makes his product slightly differently. Also, their quality can differ in time (batches), so two spools of the same material from one manufacturer can be different. Therefore you set some parameters, which work for the majority.

All these things, plus many others (type of pulleys, temps, linear advance, print speeds, ...) has to be taken into account. My colleagues are spending hours and hours printing and tweaking. It is very time consuming, but the results are worth it 😉

Re: Cura settings for the Original Prusa i3 MK3, MK2.5 and MK2/S

The results are, your printer is flipping awesome! I have worked with Stratasys Fortus, Stratasys Dimension Elite, Makerbot, Formlabs, Objet, and I say that your humble 'bloody smart' printer is definitely better than 'professional' grade FDM style printers, and I think it is even preferable to the other types I mentioned. You are doing a great job with this product and I cant wait to see what you have up your sleeves next! In particular I look forward to the MMU.

Keep up the great work! You all clearly know what you are doing!

Thank you. Tried my own settings but there was always something off. You have to appreciate the effort put by the guys Prusa Research into supporting other slicers.
