Complete meltdown

Very new to all this 3D printing. I left a job running for 6 hours overnight and it completely snarled up and melted all around the nozzle and surrounding plastic parts. I have removed as many parts as possible (fan etc) and it is a super jam. If I break something..how easy is it to get spares ? (I can't even buy Prusa filament !!.

Any help would be appreciated on the machine strip down.

Cheers.

RE: Complete meltdown

They are located all across the web.  Search for e3D V6 hotend, thermistor, and heater cartidges.  If you bought your printer form Prusa, you should be able to login and buy spares.

@cwbullet

Ok. Thanks. I bought it new and assembled so I didn't get the lesson in building a machine up. I will buy these parts anyway just in case.

Many thanks.

I would also order a few extra thermistors and heater elements. They're cheap, and shit will happen again.

And it will come in handy if you see stringing!

I thought about a heat gun but the parts its stuck to are of the same mat'l as I printed. But I guess a bit of heat will help no end.

Just need a schematic to order the parts. Is there one on this site ?

Cheers

RE: Complete meltdown

I had a blob of doom - so far only the one.  Happens when you don't watch that first layer go down correctly and walk away - at least I fell into that pit one time.  To clear it, took about a week before all of the burnt blobs stopped falling after I got the initial blob off.  How?  Preheat to PETG temps (hopefully you were printing PLA or PETG, otherwise you'll need to go hotter).

Be super careful - let it sit - don't pull too soon, or you'll break your thermistor wires and now you got a BIG job.  The blob will eventually start to droop, hanging off the nozzle - at which point you can start to use PLIERS (hot hot hot, fingertip burnies ouwie!) to coax it away from the head.

When enough plastic is cleared, start unscrewing the fans and fan shrouds - and use those pliers to pick little globs out.  your fan shroud is probably toast, so time to use that spare you bought, and order a new spare.

On my blob, the plastic had forced its way thru little channels around the print head, into the fins on the hot end ... yada yada.  Just keep picking with the pliers and you can try using a fuzzy pipe cleaner to get in and catch the harder to reach bits.  You want it all gone if you can.  It can be done, what a learning experience.

Cheers Dan. I watched the first layers...actually the first 2.5 hours of layers. Then I went down at 0130 to let the dog out....and all was well ( at the 4 hour mark) ..disaster must have struck at the 4.5 hour mark. Typically it was an urgent jig for one of my CNC machining centers. Now the shame of having to ask my brother to print it on his 'lesser' machine.

 Thanks for the tips.

I also just got my blob of doom yesterday but I lost a couple parts. My question is, I have a MK3S and want to know if the parts for MK3S+ will work until upgrade kit is in stock? Or do I need all the upgrade parts together?

If you end up having to remove (or replace) the heatbreak and heaterblock, make sure you read the instructions on how to get the heatbreak and nozzle properly tightened.

If you end up with a gap between nozzle and heatbreak inside the heater block you will have leaks.

If you want to kill a few minutes and compare your blob to others, surf the 3d Print Blob Of Doom gallery here:

Feel free to add a photo of yours to it.  😉
