Z-offset and bed leveling

Hi all,

I recently had a few prints where the quality of the first layer varied on different locations of the bed. I decided to try and recalibrate my z-offset and then check that the bed is level.  I think I was able to zero in on a good z offset, and I think the bed is actually level. Could someone take a close look at the picture and see if you agree?

I did notice a few gaps between the fill and the perimeter on the left side of the bed (see just under the "L" vs just under the "R", probably have to zoom in). Are these tiny gaps OK or should I try and get rid of them.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Z-offset and bed leveling

The picture is a bit small for this purpose and I couldn't zoom in much, but what I can see looks fine.

Were you having problems with prints sticking to the bed?  Part of the bed leveling process will result in variation during the first layer, the purpose is to contour the bed and create a good foundation so that all subsequent layers will be at the same height.  If the bed has some wobbles in it you don't want that translated to the whole print, you want that addressed once in the first layer so the rest of the print is uniform.

Cheers

Thanks Bob!

I never had an issue with the prints not sticking, it was just that I could see tiny gaps between passes on the first layer on some parts of the bed and not others. I think I've got it pretty well dialed in now.

Thanks for your help!
