XYZ Calibration fails - PINDA probe off of calibration spot

Hi all.

Just finished my build tonight.

Self test of the printer went fine, but I'm stuck on the first round of the xyz calibrations.
The Z axis goes all the way to the top to calibrate the end position.

On the first attempt downward the nozzle snagged the paper before calibration aborted with the "check axes" error message.

I had done the PINDA probe alignment with the zip tie as per the instructions and lowered the probe by an extra millimeter or so for the next try

This time the nozzle stopped way short of the paper, about the millimeter I'd adjusted the probe before. still had the same error message.

Slipping the paper out from under the nozzle I noticed the probe was off of the calibration point.
I tried the autohome calibration and while the probe position was better it was still not spot on.

The positions of the autohome and the z calibration attempts are consistantly off by themselves but they're not the same spot, i.e. I get the same sport for each autohome and a different spot for each calibration attempt

I rechecked the assembly of my axes, since that seemed to be the problem in this thread and everything seems fine.
Belts are tight, but I don't think too tight and the axes move smoothly and silently.

I am way too tired to figure this out tonight or to figure out how to get pictures working (do I need to upload them to a separate hosting service?)
but if any of you have any tips how to solve my problem I'd be glad if I had some tips to go on in the morning.

Re: XYZ Calibration fails - PINDA probe off of calibration spot

Some people that run into this was due to the hotend not sitting in the proper place in the extruder body. It was a little lower than it should be thus putting the nozzle closer to the bed. Check out https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/5.+E-axis+assembly/510?lang=en steps 18 and 19 to confirm that is not your case.

or because they have the lead screw nuts upside down.

Aand... that would be exactly what was wrong!

I had already checked the orientation of the spindle nuts as per the other thread on the subject I'd found, but the position of the hotend in the extruder body might be worth another schematic in the manual.
I had not expected the ptfe offering up as much resistance sliding in as it did and the photos in the printed manual being all black on black didn't do mucht to help. It's a litle better in the online instructions but I would have probably made the same mistake using them.

Axes are now Calibrated, everything is square.
commencing first layer calibration,

Thanks a lot for answering quickly enough that I had the answer in the morning (and slowly enough that I'd actually gone to sleep. I needed that sleep...)
