Should I Change the Extrusion Multiplier?

First, I love my printer and I love the quality of prints I get from it. But, my extrusion appears to be off, and I don't know if I should fix it.

  1. Spool f31ef8e380 - Prusa put 1044g on it, Octoprint said that it had 1101.9g. This is a difference of 5.5%
  2. Spool e5e3e5b183 - Prusa put 1046g on it, Octoprint said that it had 1092.9g. This is a difference of 4.5%
  3. I just finished a multi-day print. PrusaSlicer stated that it would require 496.17g of filament, but it weighed in at only 446g. This is a difference of right at 5%

I think I can "fix" this by setting the extrusion multiplier 1.05%. I'm not sure that I want to do it though. I like that I still have some filament left when OctoPrint says it is empty, but I can handle this manually even if I dial in the extrusion multiplier perfectly. Is this something that you would fix were it your printer?

Huh?

One principle I remember from the first class I took on 3d printing was the instructor's admonition to "not f... with any of the slicer parameters" unless you really know what you are doing and have a very good reason to do so.

Having said that (BFG), yeah, I've occasionally set the flow to like 1.05 and reprinted but it never really changed much.

Title here

Hey!

WTF is this "add title here" pop up when the thread I'm replying to already has a title?

RE: reply

those small differences do not matter at all. put your full and later the empty spool on a scale if you want something accurate.

extrusion multiplier needs to be adjusted so that your top surfaces look nice and/or your single wall thickness is correct.

if your prints already turn out nice and you have no issues...why even bother with this estimated value.

Vulgarity!!!

Thanks to the two of you. I think I'll leave it alone and just add about 3% to my spool weight when I add it to the spool manager.
