Screeching noise, almost 90db?! (videos linked)

Hi guys, I uploaded videos of it, but my MK3S+ is unusable with this noise, any idea what is causing it? Bearings?!

The printer is 4-5 weeks old. ☹️

The videos are at:

1. https://youtube.com/shorts/Gp7EdOS_mL8

2. https://youtube.com/shorts/52pvLv2BmhA

(some WordPress Security Plug-in at this forum prevents me from embedding for someone reason)

thanks in advance!

First isolate the problem.

With the printer off try moving the axes by hand.  Are they smooth, do they screech, is it just X, or Y ??

If you find nothing amiss, move them with the lcd panel settings - ask the same questions.

If this is a new build and has always screeched then go back to the build instructions for the offending part.

If this printer has worked well for a long time and only just exhibited this problem then yes check the bearings (remove belts, turn both ends by hand, slide bed without belts) but first, clean the stainless rods and lubricate.

Come back when you have isolated the screech and we'll look closer.

Cheerio,

@diem

Thanks for the advice (again) 🙂 First time I am troubleshooting a mechanical problem, so the detailed approach really helps, its appreciated.

1. Manually moving both X and Y Axis: no screeching / noise / reasonably smoot (not reference), feeling the belt notches

2. Moving via LCD (OctoPrint/OctoDash in my case): no screeching or unpleasant noise

3. It is a new printer, and it only ever printed rather centered objects (benchys, cubes, etc.), never with issues

However, I noticed the screeching occurs always in the same general area, when the Y-Axis is rather far left it seems? I rewatched the videos and think I will start there, check the rods for markings and maybe replace the bearings altogether. Is there some consensus on Igus polymer bearings for a MK3S+ by any chance?

Hi Danmi,
Have you lubricated the linear bearings?

if you haven't, that Might be a good place to start.
Smear a thin film of grease on the smooth rods, and move the X and Y carriage end to end a couple of times, then smear a little more grease on the smooth shafts, and try a print

I agree with @joantabb, lubricate first.
