Printer goes to centre of build plate after every layer

Hi just joined and trying to look for a solution. I have a Prusa MK3S and what I have found is when I am printing anything, as soon as any layer is done, the X and Y goes to the centre of the bed then back to where the layer finished and moves up to continue. This is especially annoying in vase mode. I have the same problem in simplify 3d and prusaslicer. Any ideas??

Best Answer by bobstro:

OP created a 2nd thread indicating it was a problem with the Octolapse time-lapse plugin for Octoprint. I think this is another good FAQ-level diagnostic situation -- "Are you printing with Octoprint or any other means besides the SD card?"

Generally - only gcode commands will move the nozzle to any specific point. I suspect you have something off in your part that the slicer is reacting to.  When you loaded the part into your slicer did it report and errors in the part?

Also - a photo of the part and problem is always a good idea.

ps: When uploading photos, drag and drop them into the text window; at your media screen, select LINK TO : MEDIA FILE, and use the thumbnail or medium image size -- do not use large as it will cause distortion - and linking to the media files allows other to click to zoom on the image. It makes reading posts a lot easier.

pps: If it is an interlayer effect - check your layer change custom gcode settings.

Maybe he needs to reflash his firmware - update it or even downgrade it. Could also be a problem with the PTFE tube causing the printer to skip a step in gcode.

It's the Octoflash plugin injecting gcode to move exactly as described on layer change. There are a ton of parameters you can tune to move the print head out of the way for the timelapse pics. Had the same thing happen to me. Disabling the plugin resolves the issue. Setting the parameters correctly helps even more. 🙂

As bobstro said above, I posted this in another thread as I wasn't sure where to post this so I posted it twice. It was the OctoLapse plugin that was forcing it to move to the centre just to get the screenshot and then resume the print. I removed the plugin and it fixed it.
