Print fails in exact same spot, not first layer

I am posting this here, but am not sure this is a "first print" issue.  At the time of finding this issue, I had about 10 hours of print time on this printer (not my first Prusa MK3s)

While printing, the Extruder would exit the print as if it fails at the same exact spot (not on the first layer - see pictures).

Initially, this issue occurred and gave a "Crash Detected" error.  After checking all of the usual suspects (potential crash points were clear for each stage, verified there was no increases resistance from the cable wrap, lubricated rails, no printed ridges that were bumping the extruder) I turned off crash detection and watched as it got to this spot in the print.  .

This time, when the print got to the point of failure, the extruder moved to the home position and then immediately moved back to the stage to continue printing.  During this, it bumped into already printed objects and started printing again in the wrong position (previously, crash detection would stop the printer at this point again).  I shut the printer down, re-sliced the file and it printed without issue.

My initial reaction was that I had an issue related to the assembly since I just built it. But since my reslice I am wondering if this was just a coincidence where a new printer aligned with a corrupted file.

My question is:  Should I be tracking a known issue related to mid-print failures or did I just get unlucky with a bad file? My main concern is this issue happening again causing damage to my Pinda.

I have never seen another issue like this on my other Prusa (>50 days of print time with NO collision detection errors logged)

Thanks!

There are a lot of "student" STL's out there that have never been printed, and were posted just because it solved the professors demand, or just plain looked darned cool.  Spotting a charlatan design file that is impossible to print is a skill.

Yes - I always print those with skepticism.   In this case, I designed these models myself and have printed them in this configuration multiple times...  However this was the first time printing it on this printer.

Quick question, just as a matter if interest, when it fails is there any sign of the g warping up off the bed?

Just wondering if the new print surface maybe needs a darn good clean.

Tank you very much!

@clarmrrsn

Good question - it was not lifted off of the surface.

The behavior you describe is consistent with the detection of crashes.  Moves to the home position (known zero) and then re-home to where it thinks the print should be.  If your printed objects have moved or warped - or if the carriage has shifted, you could see this behavior.

Check the full Y movement - does anything bind?  Check the full X movement - does anything bind?  Any slight binding can trigger a crash detection - and from experience, I know that binding causes bed shifting - which then will lead to the symptom of actual crashing or emitting spaghetti.
