"post nozzle drip" gunk in the extruder
Suffering from “post nozzle drip”.

I think i have a stuck/baked filament in the extruder due to ASA use.

Filament size from the extruder was fine after one 6 hour print.
Currently I only have black filament PLA and ASA and two feet of silver .
This took a 200 watt clear bulb and a quick juggling class to capture my ‘experience’.
Started after ASA completed two prints and failed a third.
I have used “the needle” and since I only have a few feet of the 'good old silver 115 and 60' with ‘good first layer calibration’.
Now I have 'post nozzle drip’ and very uneven extrusion .4 nozzle MK3S
I switched back to pla  and tried but got no adhesion and then noticed how much smaller the size was than ‘good old silver’.

I heated up after trying ASA again and could stick needle up the nozzle It would enter then meet resistance so I poked around.
Ive switched back to pla and noticed very much under extruding. With the limited silver I noticed a lot of dark filament extruding before the silver.
I have no way of knowing of this was leftover ASA or new PLA since both are black .
Sis a zillion adjust z’s and live 'this n that' adjustments
My thought now is Im pretty sure there’s some ‘gunk stuck’.

I think Im going to have to take this apart after looking for vids on how to take nozzle and extruder off. Would love to hear any other suggestions
I did have to change settings in PrusaSlicer between filaments .
The new pla has higher temps than 'good old silver’ and it really “bakes” @ 260 .

Thinking of waiting and order a new nozzle before I try to take apart.
Suggestions Welcome

Pla I think looks like it was getting ‘gunk'

Good old silver vs current pla

And of course post nozzle drip which is actually filament leaking tiny strands .
Ill try to add picts later

Make sure you get the correct E3D V6 type nozzle with the 7.5mm long M6 threaded section... the whole nozzle should be 12.5mm long.
cheaper nozzles for other types of printer can bring you a whole load of pain, and waste time...

when you have successfully changed thee nozzle you should have a tiny gap between the nozzle hexagon shape and the heatbed, when the nozzle is tight against the heatbreak.

a 7mm socket spanner is probably the best tool for handling a burning hot nozzle,
Make sure that you have a suitable spanner for the heatblock, to hold it still whilst unscrewing the nozzle.
BEWARE THE WIRES....  the thermistor wires are very weak, and the heated wires can be brittle.   KEEP the heat block as still as possible...
remove and replace the nozzle whilst the extruder is HOT!

regards Joan
p.s. a spare heater and thermistor are handy to have on hand...

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Do you think it is 'stuck extruder' or nozzle ?

Im not very good with  mechanical issues and hesitate to get into it ?

So I guess after three days and now I can wait till .

Can I tilt the machine so I can see what I'm doing ?

Got a vid on how to do it ?

Is there a known  issue with stuck ASA ?

You could also look up how to do a 'cold pull'.  Use cleaning filament and get all the left over ASA out of the nozzle.

When changing from a higher temp material to a lower one that is part of many peoples routine.  I'll do that if I have to but generally I run about 20 sets of 'is the filament correct Y/N'  with N at the temp for the high temp filament.  So if I've printed ABS I'll load in some end of roll PLA and at the ABS temp load the PLA filament about 20 times.  Then I drop to the normal PLA temperature and load a couple more times making sure its coming out the nozzle in a straight line.  If it does I'm good to go.  If not then its out with the old cleaning filament for a cold pull.

I've been running an E3d Nozzle X for over a year now and in that time I've only had to do a cold pull once.
