PLA Orange weird extrude issue, any advice?

Hi guys,

So overnight all of my orange PLA stock has this issue where, when I load the orange PLA and let it extrude a bit it has these lumps and or rough surface to it.  I have tried the same PLA reel across  4 MK3s and also new Orange PLA stock from a sealed box across my MK3s.  All my other PLA of various colours extrudes perfectly and has a beautiful finishes like it should.  The orange PLA has this dull look to it when finishing a printed piece.

Can anyone offer advice to what is going on?  I find it strange that all of my orange PLA stock from opened reels to reels still in their box and sealed has this issue and don't forget this is across all 4 MK3s printers so I'm wondering what is going on.

Any help would be of great use right now.

Thanks

See that bumpy surface? Steam did that.

Your roll of orange has absorbed moisture from the air and needs to be dried out before it will be pretty again.

I was thinking that moisture was the culprit, any fixes that you know of?

Sure. Dry your moist filament!

If you have a food dehydrator, put it on low overnight.  Watch out at first you don't want to go hot enough to have the filament enter it's plastic state.  If you have an enclosure, put it inside of there, and run a couple of hour ABS print with the door closed.  That will help start to dry out the moist roll.

Look into how you are storing filament between use.  Even if it's just in the cardboard box with a couple of packs of those drying crystals, that should help PLA from becoming too moist.

Thanks, I've also read about putting PLA into and oven on low temperature for and hour to dry out, I might have o try this as I don't have a dehydrator.

I don't recommend using oven for drying PLA.
PLA should be dried at max 50°C (I recommend 45°C) for about 4-6 hours. Most ovens don't have that precise thermostat and temperature range usually starts above 50°C. In short, you will probably end up with deformed filament.
For an 3D printer owner, a proper dyer is a must have! As mentioned above, food dehydrator is just perfect for that and is cheap. It's actually better than any of those "cheapo" filament dryers.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into a food dehydrator and it's cost.
