Paper sheet gets stuck upon the Z axis calibration (even after adjusting the PINDA probe)

hello all

I just finished assembling my i3 MK3S kit and after going through the wizard setup i had an issue with the "paper sheet" test.

The printer checks the height of Z-axis, asks me if i want to clean the nozzle, and then starts the "paper sheet" test.
The first corner (front left) one is good. The paper is not grabbed by the nozzle and everything is alright.
Then it moves to the second corner (front right). At first it is fine then it starts to grab the paper with it, so I stop the setup.

According to the manual, page 20, I should "lower the PINDA probe slightly".
So i did as during the assembly. I manually set the nozzle to touch the heatbed, and I use a zip tie to decide the height of the PINDA probe. Now the nozzle is touching the heat bed and the zip tie can move a bit but I feel friction with the probe too. Meaning it is at the recommended height. I tighten the probe and resume the process...

but the result is the same : front left corner good, front right corner : the paper catches.

The manual is rather short on this and I haven't found similar questions in the forum here.

Any other trick one should know?

The probes sensitivity can vary a bit and you may just have one that is not particularly sensitive.

Find something a little thinner than the cable tie you are using and reset the probe height using that and then try the calibration again.

Thank you @lee-g, I'd never thought to go against the manual. I assumed the height of the zip tie being standard, it was necessary to respect it.
Instead of using the thick part (not the head, the body), I used the head (which is half the size of the body) for the probe calibration and it worked well.

Now I am facing other issues but I should be able to play with the parameters a bit to find the right answers.

Thank you for your help.

Well as it happens - I always thought the thin tip of the zip ties was what was intended.  So that is what I used.

How hard does it grab the paper?  In my case it always moves the paper around a bit during this calibration. It’s ok and still works fine. If it starts tearing the paper then you have a problem,  if it just moves it around due to friction, it’s ok. At least that’s my experience.

Hello @mdaneman

Thank you for your comment, it is good to know. The paper was grabbed a bit but it clearly moved out of my hand. So I guess it would have been torn, if i kept my grip firmly...
