Loose pulley X motor
Hi,
just assembled my MK3 and during selftest it tells me "Loose pulley, Motor X".
I have checked and double checked that the grub screws are tightened (first the one against the flat part of the shaft, then the other one). What other issues could cause this error?

The printer can't really tell the difference between a loose pulley or a loose belt.
Chances are good when the printer is sensing motor drive current, it is seeing a low number, and presenting the pulley error.
There is a Belt Tension report in one of the menus, and the manual has the nominal it should be. Be aware that it values reported are very approximate, and I can go from a bit loose to way too tight and not see a huge change in the numbers. The important thing I took away is the two value should be close to each other. If one is 275 and the other is 190, you have an belt tension issue. If one is 269 and the other is 288, you are in the ball park. But that's just my personal experience.

I loosened the screws that hold the top holders for the vertical Z rods and wiggled them a bit so they are properly seated, then fastened the screws again and then I could finish the self test without problems.
I suspect that the X axis belt isn't exactly perpendicular to the motor shaft. The belt moves 0.5-1mm on the pulley when I move the carriage from left to right. Doesn't seem to affect the functionality though.

There should not be any visible play between the motor belt gear and belt. If you see any slop there, the belt needs to be tightened a notch.
Powered off, your should be able to hold the motor shaft and NOT be able to move the extruder.
Loose pully motor X other cause
Hi there,
i just discovered that there can be another cause for the error: 'loose pully motor X'.
If the textile cable sleeve is touching the ensie-case' during the selftest this will also cause the error.
Check if the zipties are not touching the ensie-case.
Maybe tighten the zipties or rotate them so that the textile cable sleeve is not touching the ensie case.

Thank you for this! I actually had a loose screw and it was causing all sorts of problems with cables and zip ties, I'm glad I didn't have to rip apart the pully apparatus!
