Can’t insert nylon filament during assembly

I have struggled for two hours trying to get the nylon filament specified in Chapter 5 of the assembly manual to hold properly when inserted into the hole on the rear of the extruder assembly. It keeps pulling out, sometimes right away and sometimes after gentle tugging. I have tried a beveled, wedge-shaped end, a flat end, and a pointed end. I have tried inserting the end dry and with lubrication. Nothing works.

I am considering just using zip ties to hold the nylon filament in the bundle of wires. Is that a good approach or should I continue this futile attempt to get the filament to hold properly?

Have you read the user comments to the respective step in the online (sic!) assembly manual? I seem to recall that there is a trick with heating the tip of the filament, slightly thickening it.

I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…
