Can't get filament to load after assembly

I have completed my assembly and ran through all of the steps of calibration.  I am unable to get my printer to load filament.

The filament is the Prusa Orange PETG that comes with the kit.  I also tried multiple temperatures and could not get it to load.

Any ideas?  Any help is appreciated.

try turning off the filament sensor and loading the filament using the menu option.  if this works i would suggest you try printing the thingiverse spacer for the mk3S filament sensor.

@joantabb

That isn't working either.  Wondering if I have some other issue going on.  I am not hearing any noise except for the fan when I am waiting for it to load.

I'm assuming that you have a MK3S printer.

Check your bondtech gear alignment by:

  • unscrewing and removing the tensioning screw and spring on the idler door
  • folding the idler bondtech gear door up to give access to the filament path
  • manually inserting a trimmed straight piece of 1.75 mm diameter filament into the filament feed hole.

Confirm that the filament  has moved down the filament path over the center of the groove in the stepper mounted bondtech gear as per step 30 on web page https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/5.+E-axis+assembly/1055?lang=en#_ga=2.154972152.1902117233.1586012024-1284752463.1586012024
If required, readjust the stepper motor mounted bondtech gear alignment by loosening the grub screw, aligning the gear before re-tightening the retaining grub screw.

Also confirm that the filament goes easily into the hotend's PTFE tube that is just below the bondtech gear and that the idler bondtech gear is the correct way around so its gear will correctly mesh with the stepper mounted bondtech gear when the idler door is closed again.

If the printer is failing to sense filament when it is inserted then you will need to check:

  1. your filament sensor cable is inserted correctly into the sensor and into the control board on the correct lower contacts with the special plug-aligner around it.  See the pictures in step 34 for the spacer and 35 with the two wires on the right and the single wire on the left on webpage https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/8.+Electronics+assembly/1052?lang=en .
    The sensor will need to be replaced if you connect its cable the wrong way around and then power up your printer.
  2. your FS-Lever has an undamaged tab on its end; this tab interrupts the beam in the filament IR sensor.
  3. your FS-Lever is free to move. Loosen its holding screw so the FS-Lever is able to pivot freely.
  4. the two magnets inserted into the FS-Lever and the extruder body have been inserted so they repel each other. If they have been inserted so they attract each other then your sensor will fail to detect filament status correctly.
  5. the metal ball moves freely in its Adapter-printer printed part. This ball pivots the FS-Lever against the repelling force of the magnets when filament is inserted down the filament path allowing the filament sensor to detect filament insertion.

@jonathan-lin

Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction.  I had my idler bondtech gear on backwards!
