Bricked my printer?

Hi,

I was having issues with Y-alignment, so I re-ran the self-check wizard. The wizard reported that there an issue on the Y axis, and I tried to inspect. In doing so, I pushed the print bed along the Y-axis with the power on, which in retrospect might have been a bad idea. My printer powered off and won't come back on no matter what I do. I'm hoping I haven't destroyed the printer.

Moving the axis with the printer on should not cause a problem.

Disconnect power, inspect your Einsy power lugs for loose connection as an initial sanity check, then plug in, turn on, let us know what happens.

Thanks. The connections seem fine, and after several attempts plugging and unplugging it seems to be powering up again. Not sure what happened there.

Well, not quite. I'm back to the Y axis. I'm fearing that the bearings are too tight. Strange, as it passed the self-check when I first completed it, but it's failing the self-check now... but that's another topic. Thanks for the tip on this one!

But if you’re just getting a Y Axis failed the likely culprits are too loose Y belt and pulley not on flat which allows the axis to slip enough that the machine says “that ain’t right”.

I’ve seen a bad y bearing but if you can move it smoothly by hand with the unit off, your bearings are probably ok.

Let’s get you printing again!

Thanks! Just seeing this reply. I posted another question about the Y axis issue with a video. Could you clarify what you mean by "pulley not flat"? The belt is as tight as I can get it by hand. I'll see if I can tighten the screws on the pulley.

Thanks! Just seeing this reply. I posted another question about the Y axis issue with a video. Could you clarify what you mean by "pulley not flat"? The belt is as tight as I can get it by hand. I'll see if I can tighten the screws on the pulley.

There is a flat side on the motor shaft, make sure the grub screw holding the pulley to the shaft is against the flat side of the shaft.

Sure enough! The flat side wasn't aligned with the grub screw. It's back to passing its self checks and calibration. That's progress! I'm optimistic that that loose pulley was the y-alignment issue too. Thanks again!
